Montana State/Montana

Viks return home this weekend and welcome Montana State on Thursday and Montana on Saturday. Both the Bobcats and Grizzlies have started conference play 4-0 with wins over North Dakota, Northern Colorado, Northern Arizona and Southern Utah. Viks need both wins to stay in the mix of the conference race. Hopefully the great win at Idaho will jumpstart the conference season.

This will be a strong test for the Viks, currently at 1-2 in the conference and really cannot afford to drop any more games, especially at home. The Bobcats have one of the top players in the conference in Tyler Hall, a true NBA prospect. Complimenting him is a Norwegian, Harald Frey, in the backcourt. The Bobcats had some issues in the nonconference part, but winning seems to be the end all healer. The Grizzlies are really young but powerful, and have a legitimate Freshman player of the year in Timmy Falls. They are a team poised to be a force in the near future. Should be a good battle between Falls and Woods.

The flu bug bit the Viks but they still got an impressive win over Montana State, 93-74. Hollins, Farris and Orme did not play and the Viks only dressed nine players.

From PSU's own Mike Lund,

From our own, Colter (who seems to not want to put it in our section)...

Side note, I did not know Ryan Edwards' big brother played at Montana State a few years back.

Grizzlies beat Sacramento State tonight so Saturday is probably an even bigger game than this one. It'll probably be all right, but it would be nice if some kids would get well.

If only people got over the flu AND were back into full playing shape, especially for the game this team plays. Farris wearing a mask on the bench (and sitting outside the locker room after the game)... eh, maybe?

Otherwise, just appreciating how high risk of a game this team plays. It's fun to watch, not always the most fundamental, but as long as PSU is missing serious man-minutes among "bigs," that's kind of what has to happen.

Viks take one on the chin, losing to Montana 92-89. Pretty crazy game. We sure could have used Hollins athleticism out there. Griz look tough this year. No quit in our guys, but we have to figure out how to avoid these scoring lulls. Makes no sense.

Blerg.

The good news is that this should be more of a team from game to game as everyone gets used to each other... and knows when to dish. The sequence leading to Montana’s 13-point lead in the 2nd came from too many 1 v 3s towards the basket and one too many forced 3s and a bit too much desperation in defending.

Good take. :thumb:

Other scores tonight.

North Dakota 89, Weber State 79
Southern Utah 81, Northern Arizona 75
Northern Colorado 94, Idaho State 80
Sacramento State 87, Montana State 68

Montana has a 2 game lead over everyone else. Big logjam behind them. Five teams with 2 losses and 3 teams with 3 losses (including PSU).

I had to travel all week, so I missed both games. Grrr.

Would have been nice to get a sweep.

57 total fouls in the UM game? Wow.
