Montana State @ Portland State Thread

Announced attendance was a little over 11,000 (not sure if that included the streaker!), but it looked a little more full than that to me. By the end of the game, it was almost all MSU fans left in the stadium.

Man, I really thought during the third quarter that we'd pull this one out.

PSU's defense looked pretty good for the majority (other than the first drive) of the third quarter. Until that penalty erased an absolutely great play by Schantz on that screen play on the last play of the third quarter. That receiver had so much open field I thought he was going to score and Schantz somehow got there to hold him to two yards. All for not since the bottom fell out in the fourth quarter.

Amazing how many dropped passes we had in the 10th game of the season in good weather conditions. The stats listed three drops, but I honestly think it was more like six or seven balls that were well thrown, but not caught.

I know I've mentioned this before, but I'm so tired of Tom Hewitt's football broadcasts. He's far too excited for the other team, and half the time makes no noise. He doesn't get excited for the Vikings that much either. I really hope they consider bringing in somebody else for football next year. I've been thinking this for pretty much all of the last two seasons, but this losing makes less important gripes come to the surface.

This comes in stark contrast to his basketball broadcasts. I think he's a pretty good b-ball commentator, and keeps fans glued to the game.

I have always heard people say that he is too much of a homer for the viks. I think Tom is just a genuine fan of PSU and does get a little too excited sometimes but I can deal with it. I would love to see them bring back Matt James instead of Mike Lund, listening to a SID do the broadcast is a little rough. Lund is good at his regular job but he just repeats what Tom says all the time and doesn't bring anything new to the table.

I can take or leave our football radio broadcasts. It probably doesn't bother me too much, since I only hear a couple per season.

However, you hit the nail on the head with hoops. He calls a great game of basketball and is a diehard fan as well. Back when we had a band at the basketball games, there was a couple of time I spotted him standing up clapping to the fight song during a commercial break at the end of a close BSC game. /users/31/07/37/smiles/880372.gif
