Montana

Great win..check the stats...If I was Wade, i would be looking for another team..She comes in with PSU down by 1 and leaves after a few minutes with PSU up by 4. Then she is out of the game. Then she plays the last minute or two. If you look at her stats, she is the teams best rebounder and defender bu far but Sherri simply won't play her. She is the Yankus of this year and I don't see why she would like to hang around with a coach who evidently doesn't like her. Thank God for Jones and Marchant.

Actually PSU was down by 3 when Wade entered the game with 4:49 to play in the first half. When she left at the next time-out at 2:27 to play, PSU was ahead by 3. In the second half, she played less than 4 minutes. PSU was outscored in the paint by 30 to 18.

Either "Chris" is the same person as posts over on govik.com or Wade has two confused fams or someone is trying to mess with the team. This was a spectacular win led by Yankus, Jones, Valentine and Marchant - a terrific team effort. Murrell is to be commended for getting everyone on the same wave length, and she'd do well to put the same players in for Montana State. Great rebounding means more shots means another win. Faucher might have been "off" tonight, but she sure got her assists; keep it up, Claire! Well played, everyone! Do it again tomorrow!

The question I raise is whether Wade has any future with this team. I was one of her coaches in club ball and think that she needs to find a coach that appreciates her talents. She is one of the finest defensive players I coached in 30+ years of coaching. Murrell does not seem to agree and there is no sense in
katy playing 5-7 minutes a game. It will not affect the team as Murrell doesn't thing she is is worthy of being anything other than a fill in. I mean this girl would be leading the conference in rebounds and blocks if she played 20-25 minutes a game. Murrell is the coach and can play anyone she wants, but the players do not have to stay with the team if they are not appreciated. I am not in a position nor do I want to influence Wade's decision, but I would urge her to find another place to play ball. This is simply not working out regardless of anyone's fault.

Pdxfan...."she'd do well to put the same players in for Montana State"...Not a good idea, no legs, tired, turnover city against a very quick team who tends to match up against us to their advantage.

We will suffer if she give most minutes to these same players...so it was good Claire was off, maybe she'll be "on"; if she runs man to man I'll scream: again a coaching decision that will tell a lot...zone is more effective against these guys and if your team has just played a tough one, traveled to get to today's game and has to play again in less than 24 hours you would be idiotic to play man - so let's see what Murrell does in this situation.

Wade is an enigma, I just don't get it...she changes the game tremendously when she is in; scoring options are not an issue - defense wins games coach!

Jones was steady, reliable, a threat on both ends and played very well to her credit.

Chrisweeks,
I totally agree with your assessment of Katy Wade. She vastly changes our interior defense with her presence and let's face it, we are undersized and could use some help in that area. It's obvious to me that other teams look to attack our posts, as did the Lady Griz with their 30-18 advantage in the paint. I've heard that Wade doesn't get the minutes because of her lack of scoring. But,to me, holding down opposing teams' scoring is much more important than always having to rely on our perimeter players to knock down threes and outscore everyone. Defense wins games!!
Against Montana, it was obvious to me that that they backed off with their post attack when Wade entered the game. Her big frame and defensive positioning seemed to intimidate their guards from pounding the ball inside, which they had been very successfully doing all night. They were forced into a perimeter attack and I like our guards in that matchup.
I really believe that PS could go far in the tournament if Wade were to get more minutes. Her long arms and shot blocking ability give her an effective playing height of someone at least 6'5. That is rare in the Big Sky.
I hope Murrell comes to her senses and recognizes the gem that she has in Wade before it is too late. I think the lineup of Faucher, Marchant, Jones, Valentine, and Wade is a winner.

Sorry, guys, but this just doesn't wash. You're suggesting we play Wade instead of Yankus? Yankus last night had 11 count them 11 rebounds, while picking up 8 points, a block and a steal. Wade in her 9 minutes had 2 rebounds and a steal and that's it. Yankus played and we won. If Wade had played instead of Yankus would we have won? No telling. But we won, and that's Murrell's job.

A suggestion, coach. It's understandable that you'd like your favorite player to play. But Yankus is a senior and Wade's a sophomore. Why not view this year as more learning for Wade? She'll have two more years to prove she's as good as you say she is. Particularly, since right now Yankus is playing better ball than Wade. Patience!

And Freja, I sympathize with your concerns about a tired team. Yes, they will be tired tonight, thanks to that !@@#$% stupid back to back we have to deal with. But the team ww used last night was the best we've got, and they'll have to suck it up. Yes, Murrelll will no doubt substitute more. But outside of DePaepe (playing well these days) and Bishop, face it, we don't have much to substitute with. Lampman still has a lot to learn. And - frankly - so does Wade.

so play wade and yankus together, one for offense one for defense...wade needs more minutes for us to be able to handle post play and post defense simultaneously...I will not single out any player's deficiencies they all have some! Maybe focusing on defending the post is just as important as scoring? No one is saying "Wade instead of Yankus" that's your interpretation. Just give Wade more minutes.

but back to backs are there forever as it stands (until someone smarter than those presently at the helm changes things)....so what to do? MSU took it to us in the paint non-stop, most of the shots were inside the 3 point line if not directly in the paint. Any team can figure that out....again another reason to play Wade more, she does alter teams' offense when she's in, you can't argue that point. NAU has several very athletic players who will run with us easily so hopefully we will take care of the ball for 40 minutes ;)
Go Viks, gotta win out from here on!! best of luck to all of you! :D

MS game was a repeat of our loss to NA, a couple of weeks ago: weak interior defense in the second half with the opposition running and getting lots of layups. I know we were tired but Sherri needs to come up with some solution to control the tempo and keep our opponent out of the paint. Zone??
BTW, Wade had 4 rebounds, a block, and a couple of points in 7 measly minutes! Give her a chance...
