Okay, lets get it on!!
What does everyone think??
Personally, I think the Cats have a great shot at getting a W. Nobody in the Sky has looked dominant and that definitely includes Montana. There is a lot of parity in the Sky this season. Weber could easily be 5-0 right now. Lets not get to carried away though, the Cats could also be 0-5. Montana is very dangerous and if the Cats don't play their best, this game could get ugly really quick.
UM's defense has been playing pretty well, especially against the run. However, their passing defense doesn't look as tight as it has in past years. Yet, knowing the coaching staff, Weber will come out trying to establish a running game, which has its pros and cons. Personally, I think Weber should establish the passing game immediately and let Cam loose. Its time for Cam to have a great day against UM. I think he will as long as Weber limits their TO's, especially in the Red Zone.
As for UM's offense...I'm not really sure what to say. They have their moments, and when they need to score or move the ball they get it done, but it isn't pretty. Montana, has made a living off of their offensive line and runnning backs, and I can see them trying to do that again on Sat. But...Weber's secondary and middle of the field defense has been susceptical to the pass. Heaven's the Cats secondary has been making opposing QB's look like 4 star recruits. I think a lot of that can be blamed on the defensive lines inability to put pressure on the backfield. Also, the LB's are looking somewhat slow and are routinely beaten in the flats. Granted, Nick had the assignment of matching up on Julious Thomas, who isn't a normal TE. He has great speed and definite hops. Weber's defense though is about to turn the corner. The team as a whole is extremely young, and that definitely includes the defense, but they have been working hard each week and are improving.
Who has the advantages:
Defense: MONTANA...the Grizz's DL and Secondary have more experience than the Cats. The Grizz have been putting pressure on opposing QB's all season, and have a knack of getting into the back field. Even though UM's defense gets the nod, the Cats DL is getting better, they are healty, and have been putting more pressure on opposing QBs (Still not where they need to be). Also, the Secondary is starting to look a lot better. In the second half it looked as if the secondary limited their mistakes and virtually stopped the Vikings passing game. Big plays on 3rd down are killing the Cats.
Offense: WEBER...UM has weapons and can be potent, but the Cats, as long as the TO's are keep to the bare minimum, are better. Weber's OL is quickly becoming the best line in the league, and they really dont lose anyone. Yes, Halfhill, but did anyone else notice Halfhill back at the TE spot yesterday? Who took his tackle position? That may have been a huge factor in helping Weber break open the running game. Halfhill has always been a really good blocking TE and he doesn't have bad hands either.
Special Teams: TIE...The Cats and the Grizz have the best special teams in the conference. If there is a tie-breaker, I'd look at how each played Idaho State.
Intangibles: Montana...their coaching staff is more experienced and it seems there is more chemistry between the Grizz players. However, Weber has a little winning streak going and they are playing at home, which is also Senior day, that could be enough to help muster some extra motivation and passion for the team. Also, a W puts the CAts squarely on track to get themselves back into the Playoff hunt.
