Montana

What do we really know about Montana this year?

They have been all over the place. Losing on their home floor. Winning on the road at ISU. I'm really not sure what to expect out of them, except a fight. They always seem to get up to play us. I expect them to come out with fire in their eyes.

If we hit them hard early, like we did against MSU, It will go a lot easier for us. We can anticipate a zone defense of some sort, at least until we break it. once they are forced in to manning up, we win.

WSU 75 / UM 60 :thumb: :thumb:

4th rivalry game in a row, this time against our long time nemesis the Griz from Montana.

Im expecting a dogfight, Montana is not the same team they were last year, something seems off about them, kinda like us right now, but they are not to be trifled with, they will come into the Dee ready to play, This is a big rivalry game and Im thinking it is going to be a close low scoring one.

Im thinking along the lines of Weber 66 UM 57 WSU pulls away by shooting freethrows

GO WEBER

Montana doesn't have any sort of an inside game. They depend heavily on Jamaar, Gregory, and DeSheilds. They have a decent bench, but really nothing to help them inside. Off the bench they have three fresh and a JC transfer, if Weiner doesn't start.

I'm guessing that Tinklebell will start:
1. Deshields
2. Gregory
3. Jamaar
4. Weiner/Kemp
5. Hutch

First off the bench...
Dunn...their "super" all everything freshman (he isn't)
Brandon G'fellar (decent outside shooter, but nothing else)
Riley Bradshaw (remember...this is the kid who left USU because he missed his mommy; not really, but good fodder)
Martin (he reminds me of a slow, tall, white kid from Wyoming...oh wait...he is! LOL)

Tinkle will play LOTS of zone, and will also full-court trap from the get go.

This is Joel's chance to shine. I think he struck fear in their hearts during last year's championship game. They simply couldn't handle him. If him and Tres can stay out of foul trouble and beat that zone, it should bode well for us.

MSU was doubling down from the outside. That left guards wide open for three point shots. They must have thought we couldn't hit them.

I don't expect UM to do that. I expect them to either play strait up or double from the off side, like SUU and ISU did. Either way it leaves someone open. We just need to make them pay for the doubles when they happen.
If they try to press trap, we need to beat it and force a numbers advantage attacking the basket. We did that a few times against MSU and as we got more comfortable with it, they abandoned the tactic.

We shall see. :thumb: :thumb:

Has anyone else noticed that during majority of the games, the game is stopped for Berry to clean up/ stop bleeding from arms? Does the man need some lotion, dry skin maybe...?

We manhandle them on the boards and beat them by 13. 85-62.

Wazzu, the 13 point win came from your head...

The 85-62 score (23 points) must have come from your heart.

Tinkle's defensive guru is now coaching at ISU. I hoped Evans move from UM's staff would prove costly -- and I think it was. 72 to 61 Cats.

Game Day...love to hate the griz

With ISU's lack of success over the years, Montana has without a doubt become our biggest rival.

We have had some great success vs the Griz at home over the last few years but its time to start beating them when it counts. they have had our # when it counts, time to change that.

GO WEBER

EVERY game against the Grizz "counts" as does EVERY in-state contest. There shouldn't EVER be a time when anyone even remotely related to the program isn't fully prepared and give their 110% in an attempt to walk away with the W. UM has owned FB and until recently Weber has owned BB but now UM has been buzzing around WSU BB like a relentless nat. How many times recently has Weber been handling UM, many times by 20+, only to lose? Even though Weber is (hopefully) just starting to gel, the Grizz are down and Weber seriously needs to execute a beat down tonight. Anything short of a 30 point drubbing at home will be a little disappointing for me. Where is a grizzly bear getting beaten with a stick when you need one? :dead:

What do we know about Montana? That's a great question. I've watched all but one game this year (family stuff) and I have no idea what to expect tonight. I think DeShields has a good game, I think Dunn could break out but is just as likely to try to do too much and make mistakes. I'm excited for this game, but realitically I'm terrified. This year has been rough.

On an semi-related note, I just got home from the women's game. Weber surprised me. I definitely don't see them keeping the losing streak in conference alive all this year. They came to play, but just got outplayed down the stretch.

Lets see what happens at the tip. If we're in it 10-15 minutes in we should have a game. If we come out slow and complacent and start playing lost it could be a long night. Go Griz!

Come on, Weber! Defensively, you're making it too easy for them. Offensively, how can you not be eating Martin alive? Step it up, boys!

awesome game. great crowd. glad to see us get to 7-1, tough games to win, we needed them.

crazy to think griz have lost in ogden 10 yrs in a row now in regular season big sky games. its the longest drought of any big sky team that has been in the conf that long. weber has now won 24 straight big sky home games, school record. big sky record is 26 by the griz which ended this season by ewu.

ewu 2011
isu 2007
um 2004
msu 2009
nau 2008
psu 2006
sac 2006

suu, unc, und are all newbs and none have ever won in ogden as a big sky team.

A win is a win. Our defense was OK tonight. However, our offence was not as good as I expected it to be. Bolomboy and Berry had monster games once again, while the rest of the team seemed a little tentative on the attack. I'm not sure how many boards Joel had, but he had a bunch. We got called for a lot of ticky tac fouls, while often getting hacked on the other end with no calls. I don't care so much about the no calls as long as they are the same on both ends. Tonight, there seemed to be a double standard on that particular kind of call. I'm wondering if this is instructed by the BSC manager of officials. I never like it when an official walks up and gives the opposing coach a hug before a game. It does not give one confidence that they will be able to call a fair game. Oh well, that is the BSC officiating world... corrupt.

Once again, we beat the 2-3-3 zone.

I got tired of watching Jamar push off EVERY time he drove inside. EVERY TIME and he got away with it, but if we so much breathe on the guy he gets a trip to the line, however the rest of the game was called pretty evenly.

I knew the game was going to be like that, it is a rivalry game and both teams get up to play each other, sure hope the Griz dont shoot the 3 up in Missoula like they did tonight.

Good win Weber  8566 attendance, well done
