It's simply amazing how many griz basketball fans are in the dark about what really went down with Tinkle leaving UM. Wayne Tinkle left Montana with a very bad taste.
So... I'm a Montana grad ('73 & '88) and a longtime Grizzly Basketball (not football) fan. I drop by occasionally & read the threads here because I love any kind of hoops info.
The above statement by Weberski finally prompted me to join & comment. If "ski" is who I think he is over at the Griz hoops board, he's oft repeated the "insider's secret about why Wayne Tinkle left Montana with such a bad taste."
I'm no Griz insider but I do know Tinkle and consider him the greatest of a group of truly great coaches to serve at Montana... because of what he accomplished, litle more. Tinkle told me on several occasions that he'd move on "when the time was right." Nothing more. Nothing less. He truly earned the opportunity & pay at Oregon State. I believe him. I wish him the best.
If WeberSki has some true insider's info about Tinkle that's so shocking, why not share it & document it?
As a Griz fan, I'll be honest over here: There's no hoops team I'd rather see the Griz beat than the Wildcats. That said, there's no team or program I respect more highly than the Wildcats of Weber State. Plus, you truly have the dean of Big Sky coaches in Randy Rahe. Treat him well... or he might -- as ski furtively hints about Tinkle -- be gone in a twinkle. With rancor.
Now, I have a secret about your town. I'll share it. Did you know that the very BEST high end audio speakers in the world (this can be proven) are made by a small company in Ogden? True. I own an "Essential" pair. They're made by a company called Zu and they're located in the Ogden Commercial Industrial Park. Check em out.
One other confession. I've become a Portland Trailblazers fan because I identify with Damian Lilliard through Big Sky basketball. Not envy really, just a kind of Big Sky pride... the same kind I had when Larry K made it. Or the pride I have that an all conference point guard from the early nineties (Travis DeCuire) is now the coach of the Griz and (I think) has the potential to be a good one.
Otherwise, I'm looking forward to Montana's trip to Ogden on Thursday, with the hopes that the Griz can eke out their first conference win in Ogden since... uh, about 2003. (Yikes.) Go Griz.
