LOGAN -- Another Weber State assistant is going to Utah State to join Gary Andersen's staff.
Wildcats offensive coordinator Kevin McGiven will become an Aggies assistant coach, the Standard-Examiner learned Tuesday.
McGiven follows Wildcats defensive coordinator Kevin Clune and defensive line coach Chad Kauha'aha'a, who were officially hired by Andersen on Monday.
That makes three hires Andersen has made so far from the staff of Weber State coach Ron McBride, who hired Andersen as an assistant at the University of Utah in 1997.
Andersen coached eleven years at Utah on the staffs of McBride, current Florida coach Urban Meyer and current Utah coach Kyle Whittingham, eventually rising to become defensive coordinator under Whittingham.
Andersen was in Little Rock, Ark., on Tuesday as one of five finalists for the 2008 Broyles Award, given annually to the nation's top assistant coach.
Oklahoma offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson won the award.
Andersen will coach the Utes one final time against Alabama on Jan. 2, but as Utah's defensive line coach, not the defensive coordinator.
Neither Utah State or Weber State would comment on McGiven's hiring Tuesday. The announcement could come as soon as today.
Andersen will also be meeting with members of Brent Guy's staff today as he prepares to complete his offensive staff. Guy was fired as Utah State's coach in November after four years with a 9-38 record.
Clune will coach USU's linebackers while Kauha'aha'a continues as a defensive line coach.
McGiven coached the Weber State quarterbacks in 2006 and became the Wildcats' offensive coordinator in 2007.
This season, Weber State shared the Big Sky Conference title with a 10-4 record (7-1 in league) and had the conference's No. 1 scoring offense, averaging 35.2 points per game. The Wildcats also led the league's in total offense (455.3 yards per game) and red zone offense (84.7 percent).
WSU quarterback Cameron Higgins ranked first in passing yard (319.8 ypg), total offense (314.3 ypg) and pass efficiency (166.4).
Prior to coming to WSU, McGiven was the offensive coordinator in 2004-05 at Southern Utah. He arrived at SUU under new Thunderbirds coach Wes Meier after Andersen's one-year stint as the head coach at Southern Utah in 2003, his only departure from the Utes.
At SUU, McGiven worked on the same staff as Clune, who also worked as a graduate assistant at BYU in 2002 under former Cougars coach Gary Crowton.
