Most Important Game in School History?

I think everyone will agree that last weeks win was the biggest win in school history. But in reading an article this morning on Sacstatesports.com (thanks Bill!), Sperbeck was telling his players that this weeks game was more important than the game against OSU. That made me think about how important this game really is:

1. Media attention has never been higher
2. Ticket sales and interest are at the highest level in years.
3. Sac is expected to win this game - pressure?
4. May compete with SUU for an at large playoff spot
5. A loss would completely kill the momentum from last week
6. The next three games are @WSU, Montana, @MSU - it would be huge just to win 2 out of 3
7. This is Sperbeck's 5th season, I think everyone will agree that anything less than the playoffs will be a major disappointment.

It is unrealistic to expect Sac to go undefeated this year, but as difficult as their schedule is - does that make this the biggest game in recent history or ever?

Thoughts?

This game has all the makings of the classic let-down game. Last week was the biggest win in school history. This week is the biggest game in school history to back up last week's game. Then I think the Weber game will be the biggest, etc. One game/week at a time...

I'm on-board with the whole, one week at a time thing, but if we lose to SUU, we will lose more than just a game. We will lose momentum, community support and "BUZZ"...

We need to go into WSU 2-0 with a shot to face UM at home 3-0 in front of a packed house...

Excellent roll up, OH. Sac has some truly dedicated fans; but, many in the community are fickle and will just as easily go cold to the team with a loss to a school they've never heard of (i.e. SUU). Getting 2, 3 wins to start out the season would make the inevitable loss more palatable later in the season. If anything, the team needs to get more monkeys off their back, such as finally beating Montana.

Sac will hopefully come out focused, fired up, and ready to execute as they did last week. Looking forward to catching the game on TV this weekend. Go Sac!!

This is definitely a game of heightened importance. I don't think it'll break the momentum, but it will definitely slow it down if an L added to the Hornets record. But looking at the facts, I have complete faith in the Hornets.

1. OSU Beaves = respectable PAC 12 member, football wise. Hornets showed respect and humbled the Beaves.

2. Beaves = FBS = more talent = more depth. Hornets matched that talent.

3.Beaves came back, Hornets kept their composure.

4. Reser Stadium, 45,000+ crazy. Eccles Coliseum only 8,500. The Hornets silenced 45,000+. They can, will, do the same to 8,500/-.

Go Hornets!!!

Saturday's game is a golden opportunity to solidify the attention and respect in the community earned with the win at Oregon State. Posters on this board are basically like preaching to the choir, we would be at the games regardless of wins are losses. We need to seize this opportunity to interest, attract and sell the large number of lukewarm fans out there into attending our home games and enjoying it. A loss at SUU would not be the end of the world but it would be a setback and a loss of momentum. Imagine what wins at SUU, Weber and then beating Montana in front of a large crowd at Hornet Stadium would do for the program!
