Mountain West Conference

So it looks like the Mountain West will be at full force again with the Broncos return. Interesting read on ESPN and the fact they might not let San Diego back in so they can pilfer one of ours.
"A Mountain West conference source with knowledge of the situation said San Diego State wants back in the Mountain West, but the league is holding up the process as it decides whether there is a better fit than the Aztecs and if there is a school that can deliver more value."
I am sure Idaho would love to go there, but I am sure the MWC wants no part of that clown house.
So who in the Big Sky is most attractive . . . UM & MSU (aren't they a package deal?). I hope they don't make the silly jump to the BCS, but you never know. With the way UM has all their issues might be a way for them to get some good news in ink. But on the other hand if I was the Mountain West I would not want a potential media circus if UM goes down for a few years.
Yes I saw this
sources told ESPN that Houston and SMU, scheduled to join the Big East next season, are among four possible teams the Mountain West may target, along with Tulsa and UTEP. The Mountain West will look to add a 12th member by 2014, sources said.
but just thinking this might be a way for them to move up if it is their desire.

Finally even though I am posting this I am really tired of all the movement of colleges in conferences. I have no clue where anyone is anymore in the "BS"C . .I mean the BCS :ohno:

The way it looks right now, I would say that MSU and UM window to move up has closed unless the WAC is somehow reborn. The MWC has plenty of choices now to fill its conference.

I took the comment to be a veiled reference to BYU. If BYU wants back in, the MWC would be loving life. They add significantly more value than San Diego State. Plus, I think this is a bit of a "Fuck You" to San Diego State for saying publicly that they wanted to stay in the Big East.

Absolutely ZERO percent chance that UM, MSU, or any other Big Sky school gets a MWC invite. There are plenty of Conference USA schools + NMSU, UTSA, Texas State to choose from that would get in before any Big Sky school. And then of course, there's always Idawho. :dunce:

The thing about the WAC dying is that it squashed the hopes of FCS schools wanting to move up and ending up in a conference like the MWC. The WAC, and the Big West before it, served as a nice FBS "starter" conferences (See BSU, Nevada, Idaho, etc) for transitioning FCS schools....although ultimately, the demise of the WAC is better for the Big Sky and FCS football in general.

But anyway, nope, it will take some sort of major re-structuring of the Divisions at this point before the MWC looks at a FCS school.

BYU would be the most logical target for the MWC. Montana schools not so much, but if we were talking about wac differet story.

SDSU will get in. They bring too much to the table to pass up. Good media market (most important aspect wrt realignment), great hoops, football on an upswing, great recruiting area, and easy to travel to for their regional footprint plus with the Poinsettia Bowl in SD, it can add another bowl tie-in for the MWC. I do think the MWC will make them sweat it out though.

BYU has too sweet of a deal with ESPN ($4M/yr) to leave that now, but maybe down the road they will rejoin the MWC.

Looks like they'll be in then, as I'm not sure that there are any other options for SDSU or the MWC. I'm kinda glad that the Big East thing fell through for them. The whole thing was ridiculous.

Yep, it's a crying shame what the BC$ has done to college football and traditional rivalries all over the country. SDSU and Boise State in the Big East? WTF.
