BOZEMAN, Mont. – Montana State running back Orenzo Davis has failed to meet academic eligibility standards and will miss the 2011 football season, Bobcat coach Rob Ash said Thursday.
Davis rushed for 1,126 yards last fall, the 11th-best season in school history, and helped spark the Bobcats to the Big Sky title. He became ineligible after the spring semester, and Ash indicated the senior from Littleton, Colo., has the option of enrolling at MSU in the fall of 2011, utilizing his redshirt season, and working toward restored eligibility for 2012.

I might be thinking of someone different, but I thought this kid was already only eligible because of some kind of appeal to a previous suspension?

You can't blame Montana State, but this is an example of how some kids just don't learn.

That's Big Sky co-title***

*** and prompt exit from the playoffs with loss to be avenged by future National Champion Eastern Washington

This is a separate issue (grades) so he will be out next year. Definitely changes the complexion of our run game. O. Davis had the rare combination of great field vision and the ability to do something about it. This was something MSU has been preparing for all spring. Bigger question is if we can get our starting RG back from injury and make the necessary shifts in our offensive line.

We will definitely be a more physical running team between Palmer, Kirk and Nebraska transfer Robinson. All three would just as soon run over 3 or 4 guys and are pretty good at it.
