Murray State Racers

This game worries me a little. I hope we can play with the intensity we had last night. Three games in three nights is difficult.

Vegas has us as a 2 point underdog. The Racers starting line goes 6'7, 6'5, 6'4, 6'4 & 6'0. We will have the height advantage over this team. The key will be boxing out and controlling the offensive glass. Joel will need to dominate their 6'7 big man Langston. The Racers will be a good "small ball" test for us.

I think we will need to get contributions from players other than Joel and Jeremy. We can't shoot 50% from the free throw line and expect to win tonight. The Racers are a winning program. Last year they compiled 29 wins and went undefeated in the regular season of the Ohio Valley. They lost to Belmont in the conference tournament and found themselves in the NIT.

Lets Go Weber, this thing is within reach.

Can someone post the direct video link to the game tonight? It shows that Murry St is a 1 point favorite. Looks like both teams are pretty evenly matched. They are not a big team though. Braxton and Bolomboy need to dominate the boards. If we win the rebounding battle we will win. 66-62

Hello all, I am new to the forum. I've followed it for several years and have finally gotten around to registering. It's good to talk Weber sports with fellow fans.

Thoughts on the game tonight...

Having a potential size advantage down low, I'd like to see us exploit that and feed Bolomboy and Braxton in the paint a little more than usual. Joel seems to be a bit more aggressive than he was last season when he gets the ball down low. As he continues to gain confidence I'd like to see him be a little more physical inside. There is no reason he shouldn't get 14-16 points, 10-12 boards, and 2-4 blocks each night, and better than that when the matchup is favorable. I'm happy with how Braxton has played so far. He does seem to have a little bit of a "deer in the headlights" look on his face so far but that can be expected for a R/Fr. At 250, he's the biggest guy on our team and I'd like to see him play real physical around the basket too. Winning the rebound battle will be key tonight.

Taking 30 three pointers worked very well last night (holy crap Senglin, what did you eat for breakfast?!). That most certainly will ebb and flow. While I feel we are a relatively strong three point shooting team, it makes me nervous to think that throwing up 30+ threes a night may be a common occurrence this season... I'd like to see to see our guards facilitate some good mid range looks whether for themselves or the forwards.

One last thing... Does anyone know if the game tonight is on TV besides the youtube stream? With the holiday this week, and more people at home, this could be a great chance for exposure if it is on TV. Not to mention the possibility of a early season tourney title.

Prediction for tonight: Weber State 69 Murray State 65

I think the key is going to be keeping our turnovers down. Murray State creates a lot of turnovers. Which could be bad for Weber. This is not just an issue of the guards getting the ball up the floor. When the ball goes in to Bolomboy or Braxton, or Hill they need to protect it.
Murray State has not been a good rebounding team this year. But they've made up for that by forcing turnovers.

Welcome to the group. I'm a fairly new poster too, but a long time lurker. As for tonight's game, it's only on YouTube and radio.

5min till tip off. Looking forward to seeing how the Cats match up with the Racers of Murray State. Like others who have posted, I'd like to see the Cats beat up the Racers with our height. Yes, we can expect them to run on us using their speed but I like our available depth, size, and defensive prowess in this one. Let's go Cats bring home some championship hardware.

Solid half for the Webercats, need to make our freebies, hate to lose another Championship game due to not making the freebies.

Really early foul trouble for the Racers, especially their bigs. We need to take that advantage and continue to go inside, we have I feel a edge inside and we need to exploit it.

GO WILDCATS

I didn't get to watch the game against the Drake but as for how Weber has played vs the Chips and so far against Murray, I don't recognize this team. They look so much different (better) from the team that played USU or all of last season. The quick change is amazing! Rahe giving some zone looks and the effective player rotations are amazing! What Rahe is doing right now simply works with these players and they've responded. I don't want to get too excited but something kinda special might be developing before our eyes.

Well, that was a true old-fashioned butt kicking. Wow...first tournament the Cats have won since 2001. Such a great team effort. Loved this game.

Great Job Weber, way to bring some hardware home.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone. See you on Dec 1st

Well, safe to say we're huge Central Michigan, Drake, and Murray State fans the rest of the season. If these teams do well, it could turn out to be 3 quality wins that would help us with NCAA seeding come March...

It's almost impossible to over-state the value of winning this tournament. On the morning of 11/14, there was no reason to believe we would do anything other than 0-3 in Florida. I wish we could have had this week's team against USU, but time to move forward. BYU had a tough time with Mississippi Valley State tonight, and Denver looks to be a legit challenge on the road. UVU looks like last year's team, and lost by 30 to State.

So many positives from last night. But my top is Cody John. Kid comes off a redshirt a week ago, plays 28 minutes last night, goes 4-5 from the field, has 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and only 1 turnover. Outstanding.
And he looks like he defends well.

Congratulations on a real good tourney...I think your team has turned around since Cannon (and now John) started playing the point for you.....getting Senglin into his more natural role as a 2 guard has been the difference in my opinion....

:+1: Prof

Gotta give almost as much love to Baker, and even Cannon too. Baker comes out of his "slump" (he's always been in one since we've known him) for 4-7 and 3-4 for 11 pts and 3 assists; has no personal fouls, and plays solid D. Cannon's value as a true PG and facilitator cannot be understated. This (3-4 other players giving solid contribution) is exactly what's needed for Joel and Senglin to "go off," which they indeed have.

I gotta give credit to Rahe as well. I've been down on him for a few years now and had honestly about given up on him and he goes and makes notable tweaks to the entire system. Giving some zone looks on D is HUGE and effective. The offense has had better spacing and movement. The substitutions have been the right ones and on point. The entire team was making much better decisions and willing to make extra passes.

The last three games was NOT the same team that folded to USU (again!) I would have been satisfied, not happy but satisfied, if they had gone 0-3 in this tournament if they would have still played (and coached) the same way. That was well-executed and entertaining basketball. I think the biggest areas of improvement from what we saw in this tournament would be better FT shooting but more so, better boxing and aggressiveness on the boards. Improve that and sustain the rest and we've got a dangerous team.

What a great win! Beating Murray State the way we did was impressive. This team continues to improve and is light-years beyond last years team. I love the addition of Baker (dude can shoot) and Cannon (tough, hard-nosed competitor). It also seems as if the other players are accepting their valuable roles when they've been starters in the past (Hill and Gittens). That is so important for a good team to become great, some players have to sacrifice. If we can stay healthy this team has potential!
