Unfortunately here in Texas the football fans are only thrilled if UT or A&M are considered contenders for the "FICTIONAL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP". When during the same year UT was involved with its "NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP" with USC, Texas State, which was playing in the 1-AA brackets, the attitude was "That's nice.....but look at Texas!!!!! they are playing for the "NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP". No matter what name the NCAA gives the two divisions, we of the FCS will never get the respect we are due because even though our schools play week after week in a real championship series where any team has a chance to beat the other all focus and interest is focused on two teams that are cristened #1 AND #2 by sports writers and coaches who may not actually see the teams they are voting for play, but are going strictly by reputation and their position in their respective conferences.
I think that the only way PSU will ever get that amount of respect is to join the PAC-10, pay their dues, build their program, just like Oregon did and eventually be considered for that "FICTIONAL #1 or #2 that will qualify them for the FICTIONAL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.
I agree the respect will never come, won't matter if Northern Colorado beats USC the mentality will always exsist
I don't see any team getting into the PAC-10 let along PSU, the WAC is a more realistic shot, and even that is a long shot.
I was just venting.....Here in Texas, college football is damn near a religion and as such everybody thinks that their S--T does not stink and their teams are the epitome of football excellence.
The WAC is a good conference, but based on the comments directed at Boise State (not good enough to compete) before and after the Fiesta Bowl the WAC is still not considered a power conference and as such not eligible to participate in the BCS.
Right now I just want to see PSU take care of business in the Big Sky and establish their legacy there and if there is a move to the next level they continue to excell.
