National Signing Day...

Is upon us Wednesday for basketball.

I can't speak for the men but the women have up to five scholarships to give should Seton wish to use them all.

I understand that when all the paperwork is in this week, the women's program will be making announcements on new players.

The Bengals have inked four players in the fall period for women's basketball. One of the top JUCO point guards in the nation and three "bigs." Here is the full story:

POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State women's basketball Head Coach Seton Sobolewski has announced that four newcomers have signed a national letter of intent to join the Bengals for the 2017-18 season. This is the largest fall signing class for the Bengals since ISU signed five players in the fall of 2013.

Idaho State signed Dora Goles out of Split, Croatia, Ellie Smith out of Kennewick, Wash., Nicole Murugarren of Madrid, Spain and Kaitlyn Bell out of Rigby, Idaho.

"One thing you can say about this signing class is that we got taller," Head Coach Seton Sobolewski said. "All four signees are great people from great families who will fit in with our program and community."

Goles is a 5-foot-7 junior college transfer from Western Wyoming who currently ranks in the top 20 of all junior college freshmen. Prior to arriving at Western Wyoming, Goles played for her hometown ZKK Split basketball club as well as the Croatian national team at the U12, U14, U16, U18 and U20 levels. At age 16, she was named Newcomer of the Year in the Croatian A1 Senior League, and at the U16 level Goles led the Croatian national team to an eighth-place finish at the European Championships. Goles helped the Croatian National Team repeat an eighth-place finish at the U18 level as she averaged 10.1 points and 2.6 steals per game.

The Split, Croatia native is set to play point guard for the Mustangs for the 2016-17 season and will arrive in Pocatello as a sophomore next year.

"We signed a good point guard with Dora Goles," Sobolewski said. "She is a true point guard that can run your team and understands the big picture on the floor. She has good vision and can deliver the ball to the open player. She has deep shooting range and exceptional ball handling ability. On the defensive end, she's quick and can really defend the ball."

Smith, a 6-foot-2 forward out of Kennewick, Wash., will provide a foreboding inside presence for the Bengals. Last season, she averaged three blocks, 10 boards and six points per contest, and she's been named the defensive player of the year three times: twice at Selah High School and again last season at Southridge High School. She also earned Honorable Mention All-Conference for the Mid-Columbia Conference for her 2015-16 performance. Smith will join the Bengals next fall as a freshman.

"Ellie is a player with a bright future," Sobolewski said. "She is a 6'2 long athlete who will immediately help us with defense, rebounding and hustle. She's a very good student with academic ambition."

Murugarren is a 6-foot-2 junior college transfer from Northeastern Junior College out of Sterling, Colo. and has helped the Plainsmen to a 2-0 start on the season. Through the first two games, Murugarren is averaging 12 points and 14 rebounds per game while shooting 55.6 percent from the field. During the 2015-16 season, Murugarren helped the Plainsmen to advance to the second round of the Region IX Tournament. Prior to arriving at NJC, Murugarren was part of the U18 championship team of the Madrid State and part of the U18 third-place finishing squad in Spain. Murugarren will arrive in Pocatello as a junior next season.

"We are excited about Nicole," Sobolewski said. "She is a 6'2-6'3 player with extensive international playing experience who can step out and play on the perimeter. She has good perimeter skills and the ability to shoot the three."

Bell is a 6-foot-3 forward out of Rigby, Idaho and will add even more depth to the Bengals' inside game. The two-sport standout athlete from Rigby High School helped the Trojans to two-straight state appearances with a fourth-place finish in 2015 and a fifth-place finish in 2016. She's a four-year basketball veteran and will complete her second year in track and field this spring. Bell will arrive in Pocatello as a freshman next fall.

"It's not every day that you can find a 6'3 player in your backyard that can make your team better," Sobolewski said. "We feel Kaitlyn is a great sign for us. Not only does she have the potential to be a great player, but she is a good person who is in line with our program standards."

They have one more scholarship to give if they choose to do so.

Very nice recruiting class. The Croatian point guard could be key with the graduation of Brooke Blair. And always good to add an Idaho player -- especially one who is 6-3. -:)

On the men's side, with Kyle Ingram red shirting, right now they only have one scholarship to give, assuming nobody leaves the program. And I could see that scholarship going to one of the walk-ons if Bill can't find a difference maker in the late recruiting period.
