NAU vs Cal Poly

Any idea how these two will match up? It's pretty clear we should all be cheering for Cal Poly, but I just can't decide how these teams will play. Both are obviously a big running attack offense. Cal Poly has the triple option while NAU has that beastly back (Baumann?). Both seem to line up evenly on running defense. :-?

Unfortunately, I think NAU has the advantage playing at home and because they have a better passing offense. Although, they have struggled on offense at times against teams you would think they'd roll. I could see Cal Poly winning this one if they make enough plays on defense to slow down NAU. I think they are good enough offensively to score enough points on NAU to win. NAU has also been notorious for late season collapses, so that could factor in as well. If NAU losses, they are out even at 8-3 IMO. Playing the weakest conference schedule in Big Sky history plus a loss to SUU, Cal Poly, and a absolute blow-out loss to ASU will hurt them. Same for CP, if they lose, they will probably be held out of the playoffs even at 8-3.

I think you're right about CP but the thought of an 8-3 BSC team with an FBS win and three quality losses would not get an at-large is amazing. If it comes at the hands of Lehigh or Stonybrook it will be complete and utter b.s. :ohno:

You're right, the Big Sky should legitimately get 4 teams in. The worst CP, EWU, or NAU can finish is 8-3 with each team already holding 8 Division I wins. Most years this wouldn't even be a discussion but when you look at the field I could see an 8-3 team from one of the power conferences being left out in favor of one of the above mentioned. The sad thing is that one of those teams will most likely make it in and get crushed in the first or second round. It's not right, but I think it will happen.

Hell, if this were a weak playoff field you could even make the argument for Sac State getting in for a 5th team from the Big Sky, but there won't be any 7 win teams this season outside of AB's.
