NCAA Fine for Storming the Field

So I heard the school was assessed a fine for the crowd storming the field after the semifinal win ... I'm willing to pay into a fund to help defray that fine. It was sure worth it and goodness knows the athletic department doesn't have any money to spare. Anyone have anymore info?

The celebration is worth a hundred skins to me

Maybe the NCAA should stop worrying about minor, debatable offenses at places like Eastern Washington and instead choose to address the rampant cheating at Ohio State and Auburn with scumbags like Terrell Pryor and Cam Newton. The NCAA is a farce, only willing to act against the little guys while the big schools continue to play felons with impunity.

Jesus, give me a break. A "fine" for the crowd storming the field??????? I understand the intent, but it seems like the NCAA has a lot bigger issues to deal with than a few thousand fans storming the field after a playoff game at Roos Field. Interesting note, the NCAA President was at the semi-final game and had nothing but good things to say about the game on his blog page.

So are they going to fine the winning team if their fans storm the field in the NC game? What a joke!

Kinda down this line, I also heard that Adidas is ticked and looking for a little monetary penalty from EWU as well because of the "non-Adidas" apparel being worn. Specifically, long sleeve shirts and head coverings (Under Armor and Nike).

I say screw Adidas! Why didn't they pony up with that stuff weeks ago when it got cold?! And... what are they doing for the boys now that they're in the Ship? Adidas gets the chance to have their stuff in the national spotlight. Are they going to set the boys up with shirts, sweats, etc., or are they going to show why they're playing third fiddle?

What a joke. Screw Adidas. They have their product displayed on ESPN2 and then they want us to pay money to them because the team wore stuff that they didn't provide to the team? Ha ha ha ha ha.

Let's go Nike.

Props to you Ranger for understanding the intent. I'm not up to that task. These are kids playing football at a very high level in front of their friends and family. Don't take something away from the game by trying to crush Impulsive celebrations. That's what makes this level of college football great. Keep the spirit in the game. If you're concerned about liability print something in large print on the back of the ticket indicating that celebrations are risky and should be avoided at all costs.

I hate the stiff legging running into the end zone too, but find that a little more understandable as it could be considered taunting, though I don't believe that was Jesse's intent.

I'm somewhat surprised Kauf didn't flagged for his Roos Romp into the stands. I can't see how that would be considered taunting in any way, but he looked way to happy for it to be legal under NCAA rules.

Question: does/did Adidas supply the items in question to the team? if they did, then I can see their point, since the school has the contract with them. if they didn't then I hardly see them having a leg to stand on in this situation. Anyone know?

Adidas has a legitimate gripe. They provide the sports program with loads of gear, in exchange the sports programs promise to oblique any logos of competitors. If you look at the players cleats, you may see tape going over where you might see a logo. This is not to keep the laces in place, it is to hide a logo on gear the kids bought for themselves. The problem is many kids prefer the Nike gear. I think specifically this time it was the cold weather hoodies that were from Nike, I don't know if Adidas provided an alternative, but even if they didn't our guys are responsible for obliquing the non-Adidas logo. My guess is that they haven't needed to where the cold weather gear that much this season, and it was just overlooked.

There are some folks at EWU with direct ties to Nike. Nike made a very competitive offer to sway EWU last summer, offering us basically the same deal the BCS schools get, but my understanding is tha Adidas came back with an even sweeter offer.

I'd say that they don't have much of a gripe if they didn't provide the team with alternative cold weather kit. One would think that the majority of the guys wouldn't but stuff that was already provided by Adidas.

I was really surprised by that as well. It was sort of refreshing to see the refs let that one slide. Couldn't have been considered taunting, but could have been excessive celebration.

Not sure how valid this is, but I heard it from a friend close to the university, but I am not sure if this is true at all. Apparently all 4 semi final schools were warned not to rush the field by the NCAA prior to the game or their could be fines. The reason I was told was because GSU fans rushed the field after beating Wofford and apparently damaged the Wofford field, I have not idea if this is true or not but it was what I was told.

Delaware had cops in riot gear AND their rent-a-security staff lining the field towards the end of the gsu game. Overkill really in my opinion. They also announced the NCAA mandate on rushing the field with the addendum that the NCAA would ban NCAA playoff games at Delaware in the future if fans stormed the field. The NCAA cracks down hard on the things they can control and gives a half ass effort in things they cannot. In the case of Cam Newton, I think they wanted to sweep it under the rug to avoid another drawn out Reggie Bush situation.
