NCAA Tournament (Ever?)

Since it's officially March Madness, something I've thought a lot about lately is if the Hornets will ever make the NCAA tournament. If yes, what's the realistic timeline? Will that be with this current coaching staff? Now, I'm sure a lot of us are going to say, "until we get an arena (= recruit better prospects), it's never going to happen". Let me here your thoughts on this... :coffee:

Nothing has changed in the 33yrs I have followed the team. Don't expect it to change.

Basketball at Sac State is a lost leader. Always has been, always will be.

My pessimistic thoughts. Proud to be a Hornet!
 
Ever? Yes. The men have had some periods of success under Katz and some bright spots of talent have come through the team; however the lack of an arena is still the glass ceiling. Until there are better facilities, the team will never draw consistent streams of strong talent across the roster. If an appropriate college game experience can be developed with a proper D1 arena, I believe the potential is there for the Hornets to go dancing. The Sac community has shown there is passion for basketball through the Kings.

Although the Big Sky now does neutral site tournaments, it was just a few years ago that Sac nearly won the regular season and hosted the tournament. The scramble to figure out how/where to host it other than the Nest was a bit sad and embarrassing.

An arena has been the elusive item for too many years… hopefully Orr can make it a reality.

Near 500 record and a win in the BSCT is our ceiling with the facilities and coaching staff as it currently is. Maybe we have an outlier year and overachieve with a handful of wins over 500 and an extra win in the BSCT. No reason to expect much else until we get an events center.
 
Since the overwhelming majority believe that the key to a good Hornets team lies in us getting a new arena, then let's discuss...

It seems like every other year, President Nelsen is announcing a new building is being built on the campus, he recently announced a $7 million dollar Welcome Center a few days a go (link: https://www.sacbee.com/news/local/education/article228227359.html) does that...

A: Bad news for the event center because $ is allocating elsewhere
B. Doesn't matter because it doesn't come from the same $ pool
C. Great news, things are moving, we're getting funding and the arena should be next on the table

Thoughts???... :coffee:

GAS, B is the answer. These types of structures are non-state funded. So the $$ has to come from donors, investors, students, bonds against the campus or Santa Claus.

CSU's are not funded like the UC's oppulent building campaigns. No professional schools at Sac St.

Somebody mentioned a 'big announcement' by Nelson in the Fall, only to have it flop. What gives?
 
Both B & C. Funding came from funds raised/collected via UTAPS and the CSU. The bulk of which probably came from UTAPS which is why they will now be located in this new building. None of those funds used for this project have anything to do with event center funding. Generally speaking new campus construction (regardless of who benefits) is a positive thing.

Private funds are being raised for the events center. When half of the ~$100M project cost is raised, the students will be asked to cover the rest. The question is whether Nelsen will forcibly enact the fee after the events center referendum is rejected by the students thereby expending any political capital and goodwill with the students he has garnered during his tenure here. Then and only then will the events center get built. :twocents:

The delta between a leader and a back slapping political clown is the leader makes a hard decision.
