Need One Coordinator

I'm sorry, the defense needs to be run by 1, one, uno, person not two. Mac has got to pull the plug on that dual coordinator crap. Also, I really hope Hammer can pull his head out, and run the offense a lot better.

i agree, and that contributed to the departure of a former DL coach who is now at UCLA. we have the players, but need a good DC and OC.....period.....nuf sed.

In regards to OC, I know at MSU when they hire their OC last year that when he was brought in, that the MSU playbook was tweaked a little but the foundation didn't change much from prior years.

As far a WSU goes I would guess that any OC would work their playbook off of a play action pass system with a heavy emphasis on the run which McBride likes.

I like Coach Hammer and know that he is one of the smartest and hardest working coaches at Weber State. But I also believe that the most important thing in being able to coach a certain position or side of the ball is the experience of having played that position or played on that side of the ball. With that being said I don't understand why Coach Hammer, who played Defensive Back in college, is calling the offense over Coach Jason Beck who played Quarterback in college. Not sure why a former DB is calling the offense over a former QB.

And this opinion that I'm throwing out is solely based on the fact that I believe coaches are best suited to coach the positions they played and on the same side of the ball where they spent their playing days. I wonder how the team would benefit by having Coach Beck take over the offense and Coach Hammer the defense. I think that with Coach Hammers former playing experience and unmmatched work ethic he would make a premier Defensive Coordinator if given the chance.

Obviously this is purely a hypothetical based off of my experience as a player and my interactions with different coaches and coaching styles. I've never been on the coaching side of things so I don't understand that dynamic at all. But I do know that in my playing days I was always coached by someone who had played my position and the defensive coordinators that I played for were all former defensive players.

I just wonder if that change were made if it would benefit the team as a whole or not. Just a little food for thought and something for us football junkies to think about until the season begins. The spring game was great to watch and it looks like we have the tools on both sides of the ball to do something special this fall. Here's to hoping that the coaches and players can put it all together and bring Ogden and WSU a Big Sky Championship.

I'm sure Coach Beck is a great person, but even though I have only talked with the young man a few times, he being very passive would not allow him to be an effective coordinator. In fact, I'm wondering if he can even light a fire under the quarterback. Come to think of it, a spark would be somewhat helpful. Coach Hammer may have been put into the fire a little early, but if he can make it through the first couple of years, I think he will continue to improve.
