Looks like a good hire.. However, who is leaving? Beckner? Duft?

Coach Beckner is taking a coaching position with the Oaklahoma City Thunder's D league team. It is somewhat of a career advancement position for him. I wish him the best in what ever he does. It sounds like coach Smiley will be a good fit for our organization. He already understands the recruiting dynamics and it sounds like he will have a lot of energy to get the job done. :coffee:

Yeah, this is a great move for Smiley and a pretty good one for Beckner. Beckner will be able to focus almost exclusively on player development and won't have to worry about those things he didn't really like about DI basketball (recruiting, even though he was really good at it). Congrats to Coach Phil.

Now...how does Weber get back into the Arizona pipeline? That was Beckner's bread and butter.

Major loss with Beckner moving on....... Great move for Phil, but his player development impact was huge on the Weber squad. It's important that the reputation of developing players into their potential and becoming significant contributors continues after Beckner's departure.

Ouch! Losing Beckner hurts! But it was only a matter of time. He deserved to move up. Thanks to Coach Beckner for all he did for the program! He's young enough that maybe we'll see him back in the future. Best of luck to him!
