New Basketball Tournament Format

With expansion next year, the Big Sky is going to a new post-season tournament format: 7 teams, all games hosted by the regular season champion, with the top seed getting a first-round bye. The regular season will include 20 conference games, with conference play beginning Dec. 17.

With bracketbuster commitments filling two slots each season, teams will only have 7 non-conference games to schedule. That's good from the logistics standpoint, but tough on teams like Idaho State that have to play a lot of "money games" in non-conference. There will be very few opportunities to bring in good non-conference opponents. That will be off-set somewhat by the fact there will be 10 home conference games.

This format will be used by both the men and women.

Wouldn't it be nice if our "sports staff" at the ISJ did some investigative reporting and had articles pertaining to conference, other teams, and previews of match-ups, etc., instead of just game recaps? :/ The Missoulian & The Bozeman Daily Chronicle do a pretty solid job..

Not making excuses for the Journal per se, but it's hard to do anything when ownership has dictated basically only a two man full time sports staff. The 3rd person only puts together the pages for printing at night.

They need at least, three full time reporters...four would actually be the best number but that's not going to happen.

I understand your frustration, the women are having one of the best seasons in school history and coverage has been minimal.

They don't even go to road basketball games anymore for either the men or women.
