New ceiling/expectations for this team?

In the preseason thread most people felt 9-2 was reasonable with couple of playoff games.

Others had more and some had less confidence.

What are your thoughts going into the November slate of games with EB3 at the helm?

I think we can make it to the final #8 and if we knock off UC Davis we should have 2 home games and a #4 seed to show for it.

Don't feel amazing about our chances against JMU, NDSU, and even Kennesaw St in the semi finals though.

My minimum expectations for this team is a regular season record of 8-3. We just need to beat psu to do that. I think we could beat davis but I’m 50/50 on that game right now.

I also think that we could win a couple games in the playoffs. Our defense is good enough to keep us in games against the rest of the elite fcs teams but I think our experience level at qb is probably the limiting factor for a deep playoff run this year.

I want to think a playoff run is possible but I worry that we’re still a fairly unproven team in that most of the teams we’ve played this year are pretty bad. Can anyone really say what our best win is? Montana State?

If we can find a way to beat a very good UC Davis squad next weekend and then take care of business in Portland we should be in the discussion for a top 5 seed. Home field advantage is huge. If we split our final 2 games then I don’t think we go that far in the playoffs.

In order to make a championship run a team needs to get better every week. I am not sure the Eagles have been showing that tendency. Granted losing our All-American QB is very disruptive and the opposing team does not care about our loss. Todays game is an example, we should have scored every drive and not given up two TD's. We can win out and get a top four seed, I hope so because we need home field advantage to get our offense consistently rolling.
Go Eagles

I’m a little concerned about our offense’s inability to consistently score TD’s in the red zone. I’m not sure what the problem is but we seem to have to settle on FG’s a lot of the time. The other thing that is concerning with the offense is that we just don’t seem to be connecting on many long balls. Maybe this will improve over time as Berriere gets his timing down with the receivers but at the moment the deep threat just hasn’t been there. I hope we beat Davis next week. We’re really going to need some home field advantage to make a run this year.

Wow, lots of low expectations here...I think we can win the whole thing and I don’t think our game against Davis next week is close, I think we run away with it...

Good point. FG’s will not cut it against UC Davis. We need to get that figured out. That being said 9-2 is still a reasonable expectation. We get UC Davis at home. They are a good team and they’ve scored a ton of points in their conference games but I do not believe they’ve faced a defense as good as ours yet. I think we will beat them.

As for Portland State, we just need to play mistake free football. I’m watching their game against ISU and they have zero defense to speak of.

Win out and a top 3 or 4 seed is in reach. Hell, we could potentially get the #2 seed depending on what happens in the final couple of weeks of games. Just win baby!

This team will go as far EB3 takes them. IMHO it seems he locks onto his primary receiver and doesn't go through his progressions. Also seems he has difficulty on his post-snap reads. I wlll say it the ball seemed to come out quicker in the 2nd half yesterday. Once he figures that out, wow!

I also would like to see him pull it away more on zone reads. He is so fast.

With how the D is playing, if they score 35+ I don't seem EWU losing until the quarterfinals. But, if EB3 plays like he did vs Weber, different scenario.

Unfair to put all that on a young QB who's still learning to play the position.

Team has all it needs to go all the way. Every positions play needs to rise to the opportunity, however; the room to grow is there. This team isn't "maxed out". Play up and the breaks needed to win the next game and beyond will happen. Luck favors the prepared..

No capes necessary

I have confidence in this team, mostly because it has been built all year for this month and beyond. Weather is turning and a good D and run game usually separate from this point forward. EB needs to continue to grow and play mistake free football, even if that means a more conservative play selection at times. I would like to see him be more decisive on the RPO, and go all the way through his progressions, rather than lock onto a WR early and stare him down.

I expect if this team is for real, we finish 9-2, with a first round bye. Anything can happen in the playoffs, but I believe this to be at least a top 8 team in the country!

Go Eags, pack Roos this weekend!!

Still learning to play the position?? or this system? He has played QB all through high school and before. I realize college is much more complicated and faster but he has played football for a number of years.

This will be a solid win by the EAGS. UC Davis has not played a team as complete on both sides of the ball as the EAGS. I am looking forward to snowy home playoff games at the inferno.

He only has a handful of starts at this level. This is HIS team now and he’s just getting the hang of leading his team. He’s got tons of upside. “He’s played QB all through high school.” Are you serious!? :dunce:

Agreed on all points. We expected GG to be the one leading us into the playoffs this year, but it didn’t work out that way. Fair or not, this is an opportunity for EB3 to rise to the occasion. He just needs to find it within himself to lead this team to greatness.

Well, it was a really interesting day in the FCS with several bubble teams losing. I really wish that we had not lost that Weber game but with the way things have played out at the top of the standings I still think we can get a top 4 seed *if* we can take care of business down in Portland next week.

NDSU will undoubtedly earn the #1 seed and if memory serves me correctly the #1 & 4 seeds get placed on the same side of the bracket and 2 & 3 get put on the other side. So here’s to a strong finish and that #3 seed!

If I had to take a guess on where we’d be if the playoff selection was today I think it’d be the 5 seed (1,4, and 5 are in the same bracket). I think what’d prevent us from a 3 or 4 seeding is the HtH loss versus Weber St. We really need them to lose next weekend
