New Commit Austin Galuppo

Saw this on Verbal Commits. SG from California. Looks like a solid pick up. Would love to see a strong PF JC player or grad transfer come in with the loss of Zack and Chapman. Our current bigs don't look ready.

Will be interesting to see how Galuppo fits into the rotation already in place, since most of our established guards will be here 1-3 more years, plus two other guards already committed for next year. I agree that another PF or "big" is needed, but I think Fuller and Zdor are ready to make an impact next year. Zdor is a unique guy who is being under-used in our system--he's a "skilled big" who is not strictly back to the basket. Weber is not used to having guys like that on the roster, and so Rahe is going to have to alter his system to allow Dima to be what he is or we will lose him. Tim Fuller is going to be similar to Zach Braxton, a serviceable big man in the Big Sky, and I believe that he will be ready to go for next season. Donatas Kupsas is an undersized big who plays hard. So yes, we probably need another big, either a 4 or 5.

Dee, you know about these young guys that I do, but I can see Zdor has a ton of talent. From the very first time I watched him I became a big fan. He is not the normal freshman big we are used to. Far more coordinated and ready to make a game impact in my view. He has to get more minutes. The only excuse for not getting him 5 or 6 minutes in the first half is that in so many games we can't put the ball in the basket to start the game and Rahe narrows his rotation.

I like this addition, but it does create an even worse log jam in the backcourt for playing time. If Rahe continues with what he is doing this season. Harding and John will both get 35+ mins each game leaving 50 mins for the remaining 6 guards. Personally, I'd love to see anyone other than John or Harding playing the PG. Neither knows much about passing. A Jordan Richardson like guard who is a tough defender, great floor captain, and an offensive player who values getting assists more so than buckets would be really refreshing for a Rahe team.

My guess is that another traditional PF/C type guy is added this Spring. I've got my fingers crossed that a good transfer drops into our laps. I believe we are due.

Zdor is a "stretch 4" and must be used as such, but Randy doesn't really value that type of player. We could argue that Brekkot is a stretch 4, but Dima is bigger, better in the post, and a really good defender out to the perimeter, like Brekkot, but way better than Braxton defending the perimeter. He's also a beast of a rebounder. Seriously, I don't know how Weber ended up with such a player, but if he is not allowed to play to his strengths, he will leave. Fortunately, there is hope for him with Brekkot graduating. Problem is, Randy has been playing Kupsas in front of Dima, which I think is a really bad move. It's almost like Randy doesn't understand what he's got with Dima. He's really polished, has a great motor, and plays inside and out. Better use that guy!
