New Commit - Dusty Baker

From everything I have seen, heard and read about this kid, he is exactly what this program is in need of. He is mature, hard working and skilled. He is a blue collar player who does not have to shoot to be successful. However, when he does shoot, he shoots for a high percentage. He has good assist, rebound, and steals numbers for a wing player. To top it off, he has three years of eligibility left.

I am looking forward to seeing him play when he gets here.

He looks to be a great addition to the program. Looking forward to seeing him lace up his adidas!

The roster is getting crowded........

Very happy about this. He will bring some maturity to the program that we haven't had since Bamforth and Mahoney. Bamforth both greyshirted, and Redshirted in JC, plus played 1 year, Baker is 4 years removed from high school with 3 years to play. Greyshirt, mission, 1 season jc. A true basketball player. I like his percentage from 3, and the free throw line. Hit some clutch shots to win CA state title. Good job Rahe and coaches. :thumb:

Really like his height at that position. I think he's going to have a huge impact on defense and offense. its going to be an interesting offseason as players work for playing time. I'm happy that Rahe and team seem to be moving in the right direction.

Great addition!! I really like this guy. Like Olds said, he is exactly what this program currently needs. I like that he is mature, efficient, and a lock down defender. He does all the little things that a basketball player does. He dives on the floor, plays defense, pass, and can rebound. I like his size and blue collar approach. Weberski said it perfectly, he is the type of player that was missing from last season's team.

As for the roster...who knows Mid. I guess we will just have to wait till July 1 to see who is back and who isn't.

I keep hearing that we're not done and have offers that are being considered. :yikes:
This could be a totally different team next year! I hope the focus stays on getting stronger and bigger!

I only hope that any changes to the offense starts in June..... not October! Its going to be a young team, but thats no reason for not practicing the new offense every day!

Welcome to the message board coach Rahe. I hope you take all of our wonderful advice.

You forgot to say, "We are scratching and clawing and getting better everyday".

It's my understanding that they are not allowed to 'practice' any team things, like offense and defense until next October. In the summer and early fall they are allowed to do conditioning and individual skill training only. Correct me if I am wrong. :coffee:

Olds...aren't they allowed an allotted amount of time during the Summer to workout the team together?

Yes. But it's my understanding that it is limited to conditioning and individual skill development. It is not considered a practice because they are not allowed to teach any team things, like offenses or defenses. They can play in pick up games but the coaches can't coach it. Team captains/upperclassmen kind of run the show. It turns out to be a lot of free flowing, pick and role kind of offense and all man defense. If it gets out of hand in any way, a coach may come in to stop it and send everyone home, but they are not allowed to actively teach during the pick up games. At least that is how I have always observed it. If the captains run it right, it can be a team building experience, and their leadership can be enhanced in the eyes of the team. The other thing that happens, behind the scenes, is academic orientation, institutional orientation, and player acclamation to the community. All positive things. :coffee:

Ah...gotcha! Thanks. Agreed...all positive things.

Now that Dusty has officially verballed to the Cats, do we see anyone else sign this spring? Any transfers coming in?

Looks like we have our eyes on another kid. I think hes a 2015 kid that hasnt verbaled. Suppose to be coming for a visit. You have to applaud Rahe for shaking it up. I still say we need more bigs..... Not skinny Freshman, but bigs, but I guess the program is looking for a PG.

Cody John? The kid from Wasatch Academy? I'm not sure he is a true PG but more of a SG. He did distribute a lot and run the offense quite a bit so who knows. I think Dusty can play all three positions if needed and Cannon will be able to play multiple positions. I hope!
