5'11" PG from North Richland Hills, TX

Who? Is this for real? Not much on him out there. Not very impressive stat line from his junior year:
33% from 3, 61% from the foul line and more turnovers than assists as a point guard.
No rating or recruiting info on him here: http://hstexas.scout.com/a.z?s=378&p=9&c=4&cfg=bb&yr=2014" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

He seems like a solid pick up. He can play either guard sport. We need some more depth at PG too. I read besides us he had an offer from Leigh. They are a very solid mid major. Here is a highlight mix I found. I like how he looks to pass first then score. I love the Texas connection too. :) Welcome to the wildcat family Hayden. :)

Nobody knows the actual circumstances surrounding this revelation. Probably best to not jump to any conclusions until all of the facts are in. We got a commitment from Aziz Leeks as a walk on, along with others. We don't know if this is a scholarship offer or not. It is best not to jump to conclusions. It will all be much clearer in November. :coffee:

I agree with Olds...but gotta say. Most guys don't commit at this time of the year unless they are intending to utilize a scholarship. Preferred Walk-on types usually come around at the end of an academic year after teams have pretty much solidified their scholarshipped roster. But one never knows. This kid could have some serious abilities and potential. All that matters is that the coaching staff is excited about him signing and that we should welcome Hayden thoroughly to our Wildcat fold. Congrats and welcome to Weber State. I look forward to seeing what Hayden has to give to the Wildcat family. Go Weber!!

Couple things I noticed...he is quick, has great ball-handling skills, solid court vision, is a lefty, and wears #3. Uh!!! He reminds me a lot of another under recruited gem from Gary Indiana. Supaman? Hayden could be his twin. Boyette had a lot of TOs and didnt have the greatest 3pt % either but a 33% clip in high school for a PG is really pretty good; especially since he was facing great competition. I really like this kid. Nice find.

My biggest concern is the 61% from the foul line. That usually signals poor shooting skills. But what do I know. I'll put my faith in Rahe's brain trust.

Today, I started thinking -I know a dangerous thing- and I realized that signing Hunter is a good move. He is a guy with a lot of potential and talent. That upside can really be developed into something special, if he applies himself and really works. Also, personally, I'd rather have a freshman than a JC guy join the team. He will be directly and automatically influenced by Rahe and his staff. Also, he gives the Cats more depth at the PG spot. Senglin will be the guy and yes, Cannon will be back in 21 months, but Hunter gives the Cats depth and another true PG type of guy. The more I learn about him, the more i like this kid. We need good glue and role player types of guys. He is the type who takes advantage of opportunities.

Tal;

You are absolutely right. Randy and his staff have been quite good at finding diamonds in a mound of dirt. If they have seen something in this young man, there is a high likelihood that he has true potential. As you said, many really good players fly under the radar. They are often discovered at a place like Weber. Over the years, some of our very best players have been lightly recruited by other programs. Bruce Collins, our top scorer of all time, was looked at by Wyoming, Utah State, and us. We were the only ones to offer a scholarship. At least, that is the way I heard the story, at the time. We also got a couple of other good players out of Wyoming that year. In the same class was a point guard who was slow and couldn't shoot. Mark Matos was a four year starter at point guard. He didn't have to run and shoot, just pass it to those who could. He may still hold the record for assists. He lead that team to a 27 - 3 record. That entire team was under the radar, as far as recruiting goes.

There is a lot more to finding good players than reading the, so called, experts opinions on how a player might rate. :thumb: :thumb:

Wow!! Did anyone see this coming? I guess the coaching staff has some tricks up their sleeves. I've just got to say it, but whatever happens with Sherman, this is turning into a class for the ages. Anytime you get guys like Jefferson and Braxton to sign, you know good things are happening. With Hayden, that means that the Cats have a guy for each position signing. Good time to be a Wildcat!
