New Contract

Winnable game at home in 4th year against rival, If this game can’t be won, is everybody ok with the program being .525 at best going forward?

I say lose another game to ucfe and it is time to punt.

Team ought to view this as their playoff game. Even with a win chance of official playoff bid is slim to none. Too many other teams ahead of the Hornets.

I support Coach Sears and his staff but I believe the Hornets need to win this game for the staff to be retained.
I also believe they are going to take the aggies out behind the wood shed.

I think that if the Hornets win this game and finish 7-4, Sears is looking at a 2-year contract extension. It would be hard to argue against letting him try to see where this young team will go - especially since he has the support of the players at this point.

However, one of our D1 wins is against Incarnate Word, we missed both Montana schools in conference play, and caught Cal Poly on a rare down year. I think Orr would likely use a loss to UC Davis to replace Sears with someone who can "get the program over the hump." It's no secret he'd like to have his own guy in there...

Either way, Sears and Co. have been fighting like hell this year and it's been fun to watch. Just too bad we couldn't get that win against Weber and had our best play injured for NAU earlier this year. Otherwise, a CC win woulda made us a lock for the playoffs.

First and foremost credit to Sears and this staff for getting this team to play like they have. I didn't expect to see such a big improvement, especially on defense. The soft schedule certainly helps but this team has completely rolled teams this season (we should be rolling the UNC's and ISU's of the BSC year in and year out). Landing a quality FBS transfer in Thomson really boosted the offense as well.

Having said that, if Sears wins this Causeway (he should, we are the better team this year) then his odds for an extension are very favorable. I think Orr would be hard pressed to make a change.

However if Sears loses then I think he is gone (would be his 3rd straight Causeway loss). The Hornets have been playing great for the most part, but IMO we would have seen an extension already if Orr was truly sold on Sears.

No more than a 3yr extension.
Next year should be good, the next?

Next year should be good, if win conference, should get rolled with another year. If new staff comes in worried we will Under achieve next year.

I'm in favor of re-signing him regardless. I've seen enough games in person to get the big picture of what he is putting together, and I'm impressed. This is basically his first-ever recruiting class coming to fruition, and he has set up the program for future success. Players like playing for him and his staff, and the team is fun to watch.

This program craves some long-term stability and I think it would be foolish to start over once again. The only caveat being that if they do they better get McClure, IMHO.

My friend who used to be the Director of Cheerleading at the Manure Pile before becoming a cheer consultant with the Sacramento Sirens is at the Davis-Sac game NOW...complaining on FB about the Ags' lack of play so far.

MY response?

Get your stingers up!

Well not exactly how I wanted the Hornets to finish but hey Causeway is back! Hope everyone realizes that being patient can be rewarding, many of us turned against this team and Jody Sears! I think many of us owe him an apology, Go Hornets! Proud to be a Hornet today that's for sure. Sign that ball coach, pretty sure Sears is the only Coach in Sac State history to have two 7 Win Seasons! With tons of promise this time around returning 25 Juniors

Did he apologize to us for consecutive 2-9 seasons?

Every coach had struggling seasons that were given opportunities, Volek had consecutive 1-10 seasons. I gues that makes you want to make him AD, we all know you wanted them to be crappy this year so we needed a new coach, sorry they disappointed you again

He's proven he's the right guy.

Huh? :?

Says the "hire a Hornet FB alum" guy.

Thomson was ready at NAU, and the coaches decided to not play him, they are in the playoffs and we are at home. That makes him a great coach, ready to anoint him king and call him the right guy? Let's be real, things got better after Wulff showed up. I am ok with a 1 year extension but I am not ready for a long term extension.

I agree HH.
Wulff and Huard are what cemented this team. Their additions are what we see today.
Like any CEO, Sears gets credit due to association and getting these guys on board. Best Hornet offense, outside of Roberts days, that I have ever seen. Defense was vastly improved too. Is that because of new DC, or that Sears could focus more on the D? Which is his ‘specialty’.

I say 3 yr extension. For every 7-4 season or better, a year is added. For every 6-5 season or less, the year expires.

What happens if a 5 yr is offered and Wulff and/or Huard leave? We are committed with no results or incentives until the final year.

Only disappointment was they didn’t beat them 52-21, we let off the gas on both sides. Could have cost them the game, I’ve seen it happen, especially in Causeway. We should have put a good lickin on them, a rarity.

Hey, I am happy Sears pulled up the nose. He gets to stay a little longer and I will continue to have interest in the team. We both won.
