Can any one confirm whether or not The current Jumbotron wil be replaced or upgraded? I think in Rahe's new contract deal, that a upgrade is manditory. To move in the right direction a new video board is a must thing to have! Please give the proper respect to this basketball team with a upgrade!!
 
It is more than just a new Jumbo Tron. It is an upgrade of the whole facility. New officials desk, with video add space. New scoreboard and clock system, New baskets and shot clock, New computer system for instant stats, New sound system and I am probably leaving something out. I think that the school is stepping up to make it a much more exciting venue. Ann Milner and Jerry Bovee ROCK!!

When you come to the first game next year, bring 100 of your closest friends, they will have a great time, and will be back for more. Fun and excitement is contagious. Spread it around.
 
I also heard that the lighting inside the Dee may be enhanced, to have better lighting on the floor and to use technology that is less energy consuming. Not sure if all is being done this summer or if that goes to the next year.
 
I believe that to host the ncaa tournament the facilities must not be any older then 6 years....so that may be in the works also... Super happy about upgrades...now they must upgrade outside also, noticed concrete and railing coming apart...
 
I am loving all this talk about upgrades and such! I think that this will be very benifical to the program! This is stuff that will keep Rahe around. But I'm curious with after all these upgrades, will this make the DEC NCAA compatible to host tournament games? Does the DEC have the proper area for a press conference?
 
I see the trend of holding the tournaments in bigger arenas. This week, they are playing in the Delta Center (still can't call it the ESA) instead of the Huntsman (20k v 14k seating capacity). So, the Dee at 12K is unlikely to ever host, but you never know.
I am excited about the upgrades - super coo! Kudos to the people behind this.
 
Oldrunner, I'm glad that you reminded me of all the other upgrades.. Now we need to upgrade the DJ too.. LOOOOOL I kid I kid.
 
It's my understanding that Jerry Graybeal played a huge role in the fundraising for the upgrades. Great news for sure.

VERY TRUE!!! Now that Graybeal doesn't have to babysit all the clowns in the offices of athletics he has done a GREAT job of raising $$$$$ for WSU athletics.
 
Rumor has it that Graybeal has raised about $800,000 for the new scoreboard, and etc. The roof of the Dee is going to be examined and repaired where needed. That will start in April and the scoreboard will be after that. :mrgreen:
 
A week ago I noticed two people on top of the DEC roof looking around and what not. I'm super excited for all this to really happen! I wish that somewhere inside the DEC there were trophies and awards in a nice big display case. When I walked into the Huntsman for the first, I saw their huge case full of trophies and stuff. That alone made me feel like I was walking into a prideful and storied program. I wish we had this, but yet again we can't even get a banner done. I'm super excited for the needed upgrades
 
As far as getting banners put up for the last 2 Basketball Championships, we all need to email, call, or otherwise communicate with the AD, Jerry Bovee. :!:

I hope that the roof doesn't need repair, because when it was replaced with copper several years ago, it was supposed to last 50 years.
 
Found out today that the bids for the new jumbotron have gone out. There are a number of companies who are bidding for it. Daktronics is one of them, and they are the ones who did the scoreboard for the football stadium. Weber is also going to get 3 new cameras for the scoreboard, and will have the ability for one of the cameras to be mobile. The funding for the new system has all been taken care of. A couple of weeks ago, an additional $300,000 was raised.

Yes it was. Jerry Graybeal's official position is Development Director for Athletics. What that means, in small terms for those of us who don't know what that is, is he is responsible for raising funds just for the athletic department and hopefully get enough funds to set up a couple of endowments for the athletic department.
 
The new scoreboards, new scorers table, and new message board around the top of the Dee events center is going to be installed and fully operational by August 7th. This is NOT a retrofit. It will be all new equipment including cameras. The pieces of the new scoreboard will be delivered starting this week. New steel has to be installed to help hold the new board. You can all go and see it after August 7th. It will take about 2 hrs to take down the old board. :mrgreen: :mrgreen: Nobody in the conference or state will have better basketball facilities than we do :!:

This is awesome. Other than sell out crowds and regular playing of the Joker, a good scoreboard with video screen is all the Dee was missing to make it one of the best basketball facilities in the west.
 
Hey catcat or talhadfoursteals, can either off you get us some sneak peeks pictures of the upgrade and new jumbotron?? It would be cool to see some of this progress... It would also be cool if the athletic department did an open house and showed off the new stuff... And play for us last years highlight reel... This might help with season tickets and generate excitment!
