New NCAA Rule changes

Some interesting rule changes - eg When a player loses his helmet he must sit out the next play, kickoffs now from the 35, touchbacks put in play at the 25, and kickoff team may not line up behind the 30!

Wow, if you lose your helmet you are apparently injured in some way. I can understand the kickoff move, but everything else is downright weird.

Odd on the helmet ruling. I have noticed a dramatic increase in helmets coming off during the game. Not sure if it's due to newer designs, or improper usage. I seem to recall my helmet being so tight back in the day that my neck would snap before the headgear would come off.

Well, it would appear that they (NCAA) feels the loss of helmets is due to these knuckleheads not securing them properly, therefore the loss of play. However, I believe the new rule also states that the player in question must STOP play at the time the helmet is lost! So what happens if a running back with the ball loses his hat? Does he just sit down?

Sometimes it's hard to just stop a play, especially when someone still has momentum that is carrying them forwards when they lose their helmet. Also, does this stop defensive players from trying to make a play? Doubt it.
