New Offices?

This one's probably for Kadeezy.

After an interview in Sac today, I stopped by the school to find Jonny O. The construction fever has hit the field house, and it looked to be sealed off. I went over to the Broad (looks absolutely SWEET from the outside, BTW), but there was work going on in there, too.

Have the offices moved yet? Next time in Sac, I want to get caught up with Jonny O and Lou Baiz again.

Thanks.

Hey SH. I haven't been through the Athletic's offices for a couple months so I couldn't tell you if they've moved yet. My guess would be that they haven't moved yet, but will shortly after classes end.

But, it's just conjecture on my part.

My daughter and her husband ran cross country and track for the Hornets and they've been invited (along with other alumni and guests-me) to tour the fieldhouse after the last running event of the Big Sky Track and Field Championships this Saturday (May 17th) afternoon. I'm looking forward to the tour nearly as much as watching the track meet.

Green H - Are the track athletes located at "Broad" and using the lockers and facilities? If yes, what do they think about the new crib?

HH - I don't know if the track team has moved in yet, but I'll find out tomorrow. The head track coach, Raske, sent letters to all former Hornet runners and invited them to tour the facility and they can get into the meet at half price. I think she's trying to build the attendance for the final day on Saturday, which is a good idea and by getting a bunch of ex-Hornets to make the tour, Sac State may get some of them to donate $250 to have their name put on one of the track lockers. It worked in my case.

Broad Fieldhouse opens; work begins on fitness center
The first occupants of the Eli and Edythe Broad Fieldhouse have finally settled in.

Members of the Sacramento State football and track coaching staffs have completed their move into the new 26,235 square-foot facility. The fieldhouse, located at the south end of Hornet Stadium in the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex, houses coaches’ offices, locker rooms, a sports medicine area and a new strength and conditioning room.

The facility is named for Eli and Edythe L. Broad who provided a gift of $2 million toward its construction.

The staffs began moving in from the old field house at the north end of the stadium earlier this month. Preparations are underway to demolish the old field house and replace it with a 150,845-square foot, recreation and wellness facility for the campus community. That facility, paid for in part by student fees, will feature a fitness center, an indoor track, gym courts, racquetball courts, a rock climbing wall and the student health center.

The new fitness center is scheduled to open in fall 2010. An official grand opening for the Broad Fieldhouse is scheduled for September.

For more information on either facility, contact Ron Richardson, associate vice president for Facility Services at (916) 278-6241. For media assistance, contact Sacramento State’s Public Affairs office at (916) 278-6156.

That's all fine and good, but I'm still so pissed they removed the "E" from the RWEC center....

I am too, but at least the when the new arena is built, it will be completely separate, which I like.

Are all sports offices going to be in the new facility? If so, what happens to yosemite and the old football offices? Not that they will be missed....

Football and track will be the only programs in the BAF.

That makes sense. There's no reason why sports that don't compete in the Spanos Sports Complex (man, how it pains me to call it that) to have office space there. I would expect that hoops, VB, and gym would have offices in the new arena (if it ever gets built), and that there would be a baseball/softball admin building/lockerroom facility built near those fields. Crew is probably out at the regatta site. In the meantime, anything not called football/track/XC is probably going to remain in the old POS attached to the old gym.
