New schedules out

I'm sure everyone has already received the email. That 2020 home schedule is very marketable. Lots of good home games; hope the stadium is ready for it.

I'm curious how people feel about Idaho formally being introduced as our "rivalry?" At this point, Montana feels like a much bigger rivalry than Idaho. What's worse, Idaho gets Eastern and the Griz as rivals, which means they got the Big Sky full-meal deal from the conference. That's basically the best two rivals you could get dealt. Why would the conference bend over so far for Idaho? I just don't see them bringing that much added value to the conference to give them the best games. I'd have dealt them Idaho State and one of either Eastern or Montana.

They don't feel like a rival right now but it was the game to go to before they made the error of leaving. For the time being consider it 2 potential wins on the schedule.

We get arguably our biggest rival, Montana, at home twice in an 8 year span (2016 & 2020) and then not again until who knows as the schedule goes through 2023 and they aren't coming back to Cheney in 2021/22/23...Not thrilled about that.

Our 2020 schedule is going to be ridiculously fun in Cheney though, love that year!

This is sad, that we losses so much income from not having a home game each year with the two Montana schools.
Got that right! Also, two possible ranked teams to add to the notches on our pistol for kills.

Do we? Since we won the companionship, it hasn't been uncommon to see games against Weber, Northern Arizona, etc. with attendance figures that rival what we get when Montana is in town.

Last Weber home game 9.450 and last NAU home game 9,200.

Last Montana St. home game 11,300 and last Montana game 10,900 and before that 11,300.

*Plus they jack up prices for both MSU and UM home games. So even though not a huge diff. in attendance, include the increase in ticket prices for those games it does account for more revenue. Not to mention the atmosphere of those games is off the charts in comparison (at least to me).

I like assigned the #1 Rival & #2 Rival, but with 13 teams in the conference, and only 8 conference games, that’s actually not enough. There’s going to be 4 teams you don’t see each year. It should actually be moved to something like this:

•Eastern Washington Eagles•
Rival 1 - Portland State
Rival 2 - Idaho
Rival 3 - Montana
Rival 4 - Montana State

Then a mix steady rotation of the other 8 schools. I don’t think EWU fans care about watching the Eags play Southern Utah or Northern Colorado. The conference should move to 4 protected rivalries (conference games) per season.

•Sacramento State•
Rival 1 - UC Davis
Rival 2 - Cal Poly
Rival 3 - Portland State
Rival 4 - Northern Arizona

I know this is a great discussion, but a easy solution....schedule home and away non conference games with them (UM & MSU) on years we don't play....if they are man enough to step up they will. If not then let the whole world know we tried with a see you in the 2nd round of the playoffs at our place!
And we know how that usually works out :)

Ya, but we don't get the $$$ because it's NCAA game. We will not be seeing Montana anytime soon, they have booked Dixie State 88 times in the next 5 years

Here's another twist on our stadium issue... most teams Eastern schedules in a non-con two-fer are contracted to a 50/50 split of both home and away gate receipts. In most situations, this is a net gain for Eastern because the other teams pack their facility with more fans than Eastern does. I'd suspect Montana wants no part of that, because they'd have 2x the fans because Roos only holds about 11k, while their venue holds double that and more. We can bring in NAU and Western Illinois and even Jax State because the revenues are at least somewhat close, but Montana is probably pulling 5x the gate receipts that we get in Cheney.

This won't change much until Eastern pumps a lot of money into stadium expansion. It's likely also why you never see SWAC teams on our schedule, because they won't do home/homes with Eastern because they'd outdraw us significantly (and they'd get blown apart).

I believe it was Chaves who decided being outdrawn at home wasn’t worth the money brought in from Montana fans.

I assume this is hyperbole. Montana travels well, but they aren’t anywhere near 50% of the crowd. Even if they bought up every available seat that wasn’t held by a season ticket holder, they couldn’t reach anywhere near 50%.

In no scenario would EWU ever be outdrawn by Montana fans at home. Not even in the playoffs.

Has anyone seen anything about Montana being added back to the schedule for 2019? I saw something on twitter.

Post the twitter thing on here....want to see it. Please and thank you...

They’re on the most updated schedule that was recently released. Next year’s a 12 game schedule year so I doubt the Griz game counts towards conference records. Still good to be playing them.

Montana is a conference road game in 2019.

Interesting. So which one of the previously scheduled conference games is now a non-conference game? I don’t think we can play 9 conference games even in a 12 game season. One of those is now a “non-counter” for conference records.

*Edit* It looks like Idaho is now a non-conference game.
