New Weber County Sports Complex is sweet!

I snuck a peak inside today and they are just about finished. The indoor football field, basketball weight rooms and second ice sheet are fantastic. The art and murals are pretty cool, too. Here's a bunch of photos I took. Sorry you have to click on the small thumbnails to open up the bigger image.

It is! I took an unsanctioned, unauthorized, self-guided tour after the hockey team beat the University of Denver Pioneers 7-3 tonight. Wow! What a nice facility. I'm glad the women's soccer team can get some good use out of it. Too bad football is the headlining team for its purpose. I do hope that it draws better athletes and coaching staff.

Flylikeasparrow and I, took a quick tour yesterday, after some recruits had visited the facility, and were amazed by the place. It is sooo damn awesome!! I can't believe that Weber State has such a facility. Nobody in the Sky, and very few FCS/Mid-Major programs have such a facility available to them. None of the weight equipment were in yet, but I'm sure there is a great idea of how they are going to house all the equipment. It is going to be a really sweet complex. I was told if there is a need to expand it can happen easily. Soo cool.

Now we need an area, like Montana's that shows off all of our championship teams. Their Hall of Champions at Dahlberg is pretty sweet. If I ever make some serious dough, it is going to happen, and I will also make sure our athletes have the hot tubs, steam rooms, and other training facilities they need to excel. Along with a Hall of Hero's this is Ogden not Missoula, a study hall too, would be pretty sweet. Anyone else, wanna donate?? Hahaha

Sorry, I can't even afford the DEC pricing structure and sit where I want to sit. Seriously, I want to spend a few additional hundred dollars to sit lower where I want to be but can't afford to pay more than twice as much to do so. I really think Weber State Athletics takes the wrong approach with regards to ticket pricing and not trying to fill the DEC with affordable pricing for potential season ticket holders. I know several, like me, who are paying less each year than we used to and have moved up because we can't afford the changed pricing plan. I can't fathom why a business would not want hundreds, if not thousands, of more customers paying a more affordable price, than fewer paying more. This is compounded when you take into consideration not getting local, potential recruits and the community better committed to their "local" school. Weber is NOT getting all the $$$ they could and are losing out on many in the community who could "commit" to them.

Sorry, you got me going on a sore subject tangent. All I was really gonna say is, give it another year after Lillard is an All-Star and pitch it to him :-D The Damian Lillard Hall of Fame has a nice ring  .

Need to just say it.....

Local recruits wouldn't build a winning program. You recruit the best players available and play to win.
If you mean that local is the Southwest and West coast I can agree with you. But if you're saying that local is Utah.... Then it's time for you to wake up!

Weber state is developing into one of the best programs in the West. Seems illogical to limit recruiting to a local zip code. Our fans have to look beyond to see the future!

It's like Kentucky saying they want Kentucky recruits to fill their arena with local fans. It ain't going to happen. You win with talent. High Schools would love your local dollars if you want to showcase community talent.

I never said limit recruiting to a certain zip code but why lose out on any talent in your own back yard if you don't have to. You can't tell me there isn't some talent along the Wasatch Front (Lone Peak comes to mind) or that Weber usually plays second fiddle to BYU, USU, and the pukes. Weber is experiencing a good stretch right now and it's not the first time. Things can take a turn quickly and who's to say 5 years from now the conference pendulum isn't swinging the other way? I certainly wouldn't limit what increased attendance and better community interest could do for only the men's basketball program, any school sport that can get a boost in any way will, in turn, benefit the whole.

:hijack: But I'll add my :twocents: anyways. As I've said before, there isn't enough D1 talent to go around in Utah and the best talent has always chosen BYU, Utah, and USU over Weber. I hope that someday that will change, but until it does we don't want the leftovers just because they are from Utah. Would more Utah players be nice? Sure, but not at the cost of lesser talent. So for now, I'm fine with almost exclusively recruiting out of state, especially with the type of talent that Randy and Co. have been able to recruit lately.

I'll chime in on this too. I'm pretty sure that Weber is recruiting instate players. They just aren't choosing Weber. Weber was the first to offer Jordan Loveridge, Eric Mika, and Brandon Miller. The Cats were actively recruiting Race Parsons, Dalton Nixon offer, Ryan Andrus and a number of other guys who are planning on signing with other teams in the state.

Fact #1: There isn't enough DI talent to facilitate 6 DI teams.
Fact #2: Utah athletes don't want to come to Weber cause the other "Big" 3 are in better looking ponds and the guys who do, aren't good enough to swim in our pond. Thats why the end up in Orem, Cedar, and St. George.
Fact #3: Weber does have guys from Southeast Idaho, I know we don't want to admit it, but they are part of our cultural community.
Fact #4: Weber does have Ryan Van Pelt returning next year, McKay Cannon the year after, and are recruiting Area guys for 2015: Brock Miller and Malek Harwell. Who knows who else the Cats are looking at.
Fact #5: Weber is getting FAR better talent elsewhere. If you can't get the same level of talent in the state you take the guys from out of state. Besides, I like the guys coming from AZ. And we are recruiting CO/NV, along with CA, OR, ID, and WY. Weber looks for the best anywhere and will take the best from anywhere. If we get a Utah kid, fantastic, if not, I'm pretty sure the kid is damn good.

Right, and all I was saying is anything that could be effective in helping to change the perspective and/or interest in Weber vs these other schools, why not do it? It's pretty tough to sell potential Box Elder, Weber, and Davis recruits on why Weber is the school they WANT to be at when they were never there to see and experience it in the first place. Make it so these kids/families can't afford NOT to watch Weber play. Fill the DEC!
