New Wildcat Club Director

Welcome to Derek Dawes, formerly associate AD at Dixie State, who also played center for BYU's basketball team (at 6' 11" why not...so now will change that bleeding blue/red to bleeding purple!) . Hey, some new blood running the Wildcat Club, best wishes in runining an important part of Wildcat athletics that provides scholarship donations and works with the university on fundraising projects.

GO Director Dawes! GO Wildcat Club!

Per office call, Becky Thompson has changed jobs to become a special events coordinator, therefore creating an opening in the Director's job. Dawes has a great background in the areas of fundraising, etc. Good Luck to him in his new assignment. :coffee:

I am questioning why employ an undocumented immigrant from south of the Weber County border, when you could walk down Washington Blvd. blindfolded and find a better candidate. He better have come with $30,000,000.00 worth of additional donations in his pocket, or he is set up to be a failure. Did we learn nothing from the last two directors? Maybe he is counting on getting a split on church donations in Weber County. :wall:

OK Oldrunner, other than that, tell us how you really feel about the Wildcat Club! Sorry if you applied & didn't get picked?!

Let AD Bovee know how all things, athletics wise, should be run. You seem to have answers on all things (right or wrong!).

Hey, my post is simply on 'Other Topics' & good wishes to the Wildcat Club in it's valuable service to Weber State Athletics; I'll leave the Smack Talk part on personalities, whatever, for you to cover, as you like.

Have a nice day. :ohno:

Mr. Dawes is probably a fine man. In academics it is often good to bring in new ideas, new blood, outside points of view, that sort of thing. Sort of a cross pollination, if you will. That can be true in administration as well. That sort of thing can keep an organization vital. The Wildcat club is a different animal altogether. It is a club of Wildcat fans who donate money for athletic grants and other capital improvements. Hiring a BYU fan and booster to now handle WSU fan's money, seems quite uninformed to me. Why would we do that, unless the message you want to send to Wildcat fans is that they should really be BYU fans and that none amongst them is worthy of anything but giving money to a BYU fan.

So, my original question.... WHY?

Maybe you've checked out Dawes background, if you did then you should realize that it states the last several years (7) he has been the assistant AD at Dixie State with his main focus on fund raising & community marketing relations. Last I checked Dixie State is affiliated with the state of Utah, not the LDS Church. He also holds a Masters from Gonzaga. Jerry Bovee said he will be a "fine fit" with his background for Wildcat athletics. If you know that he is a loyal BYU fan & booster, then I can understand, but it doesn't necessarily excuse your first rant. What's your problem with past director Becky Thompson? Maybe you're the one uninformed & I disagree with your above assessment.

I, for one, do not appreciate your tendency to jump in on all posts & dismiss some away. Although I realize that it's the nature of several ex-jock posters on a forum like this to launch into a negative diatribe on some things outside "our school", right or totally mistaken. Enough said & GOOD LUCK to the WILDCAT CLUB efforts, all other things aside.

I wish Derek Dawes the best of luck. Seems like a competent man. We need good direction.

Everything I have seen so far tells me that I was completely wrong in my evaluation of our new Wildcat Club Director. Looks to me like he is doing everything the right way and is very progressive in his approach.

I apologize. I am eating all of my words right about now, and they don't taste good. :notworthy:
