POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State women's basketball team has announced the signing of Isabel Vara de Rey, a Spanish point guard from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands.

She comes to ISU with a wealth of experience playing with top level teams throughout Spain. She spent last year in the LF2 League (second highest league in Spain) with Ciudad de Los Adelantados where she was one of the youngest players in the league.

"We are very excited about Isabel joining our program," Head Coach Seton Sobolewski said. "She's a talented young lady who's played basketball at a very high level in Spain. Isabel is a dedicated student that also comes from a very nice family."

She has also played for CB Isla Unica de Tenerife and Segle XXI, one of the top basketball programs in Barcelona.

She averaged 5.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.1 assist and 1.0 steals last season as one of the youngest players in the league for Ciudad de Los Adelantados. Her number increased to 13.5 points, three rebounds and three assists during the three years her team went to the playoffs.

Vara de Rey has also spent time working with the Spanish national team.

She is a freshman with four years of eligibility for ISU. So as of now Seton will have three international players on the roster for next year. One from Spain, two from New Zealand.
