I actually went to the game. I searched on a Facebook site where one fan mentioned kids get in free. The Weber State app sent an alert two hours before the game stating the promotion but the app didn’t work to buy tickets, so I had to log on to the website. The two adult cheapest tickets cost $15 each, but the site wanted to add on a $9 fee…so we bought them at the game and got the family of five in. At regular price for Wildcats basketball, I can get my family to an NHL or NBA game upper bowl cheaper. YIKES!!!
A New Year’s Day Game where kids got in free drew 2,624 fans (listed). Of course I had to search out the deal…so absolutely no marketing and promotion going on. There is no game atmosphere, you could hear a pin drop at times.
I keep hearing that Weber State has talent going to waste because of coaching, but I don’t think the talent is there either. They stunk it up on wide open looks at three point line and missed a lot of free throws. I think at on point they were 3 of 17 of 3s. I think a lightly buzzed drunk could probably make 3 of 17 (they weren’t heavily defended attempts the Wildcats missed). I sure hope no money is being paid to these players.
Of course, the coaching is bad as well. The Wildcats did best at uptempo pace driving to the paint, but would not stick with it and had to keep chucking up 3’s. Defense and rebounding is awful. Missed assignments and hands at sides.
Oh well, Duft and Crompton remain gainfully employed.
Bring Hockey to the Dee Events Center! Renovate now for Olympic Curling and put the basketball team in the Swenson Gym until the renovation is done.
