So I just caught wind of this, but have no idea if it's accurate. FBSschedules website shows Eastern playing on the road at BOTH Oregon and Florida next year. That can't be right, can it? That would be a suicide schedule, and no matter what team we play for our third non-conference game, it would probably be the hardest non-conference schedule for any team in the country (including Power 5 schools). It doesn't seem like that's real.

Another question... what ever happened to our return trip from Jacksonville State? They still owe us a game after the total collapse we suffered in Alabama a couple years back. I don't see them having a return date on any future schedule. If we only play one of Florida and Oregon next year- like I suspect is the case- that might be a good time to add them to the home schedule.

After reviewing our future schedules, there's not a lot to like on what's presently there.

It’s not a mistake, it’s happening. Oregon was previously scheduled and the Florida game is a make up from last year. My guess is when a program like Florida has an opening to pay you the big pay day that is more than needed to make ends meet, you take it.

Yes, it’s a bummer that we can pretty much start the year knowing we have two losses. This is the year to make noise for Eastern. Senior QB, amazing home schedule, etc. The time is now!

I agree with you (in another post) about attendance. I would say there was definitely more than 4,500 there yesterday but attendance has slipped the past 2 seasons. I’m concerned the Montana fans will be flocking to Roos on Oct 2nd as we still have way too many tickets available.

Someone more in the know than myself can confirm. Bet it's true both Oregon and Florida. I remember in that Athletic Review process when Interim President David May gave his reccomendation he mentioned something along the lines the Athletic Dept. will have to be fiscally aware, fundraising, spend less $$$ ect. Two big money games is one way to be sure. Maybe we go back to two money games a year at the sacrifice of making playoffs and getting a seed...just conjecture on my part.

Unfortunately we play both Oregon and Florida next year, it will be a killer for breaking in our new QB

Jacksonville state ended up buying out the return game…brutal…

Jacksonville State bought out the return leg? Dear Lord, how do they find the money to do that? I guess the lesson to be learned is do your best to not play the opening leg of a series on the road. I won't be shocked if we never get a return game from Western Illinois either. I remember Nicholls did the same thing a number of years ago.

But man, Eastern may wind up having 2 top 10 Power 5 schools on the road next year. I'm quite serious about it when I say Eastern may have the single toughest non-conference schedule in the entire country... including Power 5 schools. I doubt any other program will travel to 2 top 10 teams in non-conference play. Even if we balance it out with some nobody, that's still two rough games.

The only thing that could possibly smooth that out a little is to buy a home game with some really bad FCS team. Maybe like Montana State did with Drake. Get some low-schollie count team to come in that we can just pistol-whip. I assume Oregon and Florida pay us $1.2mm or thereabout for the two games, we could likely afford a $200k game to bring a bad FCS team to Cheney.

We also play at Montana the week after Florida…

OK, you're just piling on now. Looking forward to seeing the Eags in Gainesville, maybe not the outcome. It will be hot and humid, as much or more so than the Jacksonville State game a couple of years back and likely hotter than the Texas Tech game which was brutal.

We will be back to palying money games 1 or 2...can't imagine UNLV was a big money game. Saw this coming(with money being an issue to keep Football going)..that's why this year is the year(new QB next year). We'll end up getting scheduled out of a seed because of it in the future.

I wouldn’t worry about the fans from Montana making much of an impact with your attendance. Most that I spoke with last weekend were shocked at ticket prices being almost 25% higher than the annual Cat/Griz game.

I feel bad for UM fans.

Not sure if 2 FBS games become the norm until the budget woes work themselves out, but I hope not. Scheduling one game against a P5 seems to be the way to go in terms of financials and playoff eligibility and success. We don’t make much off of playing those G5 teams anyway.
