It'll be extremely hard to keep coach Rahe after this season. I hope Bovee can do it. If Rahe does decide to move on, who takes over? Duft or Beckner? Are there any schools in the west that might be looking for a coach at the end of the seaon, who might try to take Rahe?

When you read player's complements about a Coach, that says it all, no better source. I had a drill sgt. in basic training that was of short stature like Rahe, I really think that played a big part in their aggressive personality--to their good. I've been one of Rahe's critics, on post-season lack of success in tourneys, perhaps unfairly as the article says. But so far this year (maybe because of team depth) Coach Rahe has done a splendid job of preparation. That's to his recruiting ability credit also. My hat is off to him & his staff--classy. I dare say, though, that if Wildcats make NCAA or NIT and get a win or two, Rahe will be courted by a Big program & if he goes, I would hope that Duft gets serious consideration to continue the program ways. (It worked out fairly well that way with coaches in Wildcat BB early years of Div 1). :twocents:

The article was a good account of what Randy has done at Weber.
His name gets tossed into the hat every year when openings occur ( same for Tinkle too).
It has to be a compelling situation to get an established coach to move- uproot a family with kids established in schools, a wife that has a career, and a future with players and recruits that you have structured, and a university that has made a long term contract commitment. Compare that to the opening: normally a program in disarray, administration and alumni that want to win NOW, a couple years of frustration while you put in your plans and people ---- but normally more exposure and more dollars. It is a tough choice.
Examples: Look at Nebraska and Colorado State.
CSU's Tim Miles goes to the Big 10 to Nebraska, where football is king and he didn't have a lot of talent. He's going to have to tough it out. He has turned programs around before, so he knows what to expect.
Contrast that with Eustachy at CSU- that cupboard was stocked and he's had success this year with Mile's recruits. The next couple years shows how he can re-load.
Regarding successor: Many head coaches take their staffs with them if they move. Frank Martin at K State took everyone to South Carolina, so an assistant might not be available.
I hope that Coach Rahe likes his situation, the players and university support and sticks around for a long time.
