Just read an article on the ESPN Pac12 blog written by Kevin Gemmell entitled: Best nonconference matchups.
http://espn.go.com/blog/pac12/post/_/id/72747/mailbag-best-nonconference-matchups" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Where he goes over each Pac12 teams nonconference games and when he gets to Washington he states:
" @Hawaii, Eastern Washington, Illinois, Georgia State. You could start me, Kyle, Ted and Chantel at quarterback in each of those games and Chris Petersen would still start 4-0 in his career at Washington. (Well, maybe not Ted)."
Note: Kyle Ted and Chantel are all writers for the Pac12 blog.

When Gemmell gets to Oregon State he say the following:
" Portland State, @Hawaii, San Diego State. Anyone else remember just how close that game was last year against the Aztecs?"

Anyone else remember just how close that game was last year against the Aztecs? Are you kidding me?
Did they already forget about Oregon States nonconference game with the Big Sky last year and how it didn't go so good! Or how they start out with another Big Sky team and how OSU better take care of business. After watching PSU almost knock off Cal last year I think PSU will give the Beav's a real game!

This leads me to throw this question out there. What Big Sky team has the best shot at pulling the next big upset against a FBS/Div. 1 team?

It is a common psychological coping mechanism to forget completely extremely traumatic events from one's past. I think anytime a FCS team beats and FBS BCS conference team, it is extremely humiliating, especially when those teams are ranked and they lose!

If the UW is taking EWU as lightly as these writers are, I like our chances! But other times that may have a chance? I think Sac St could surprise Cal, as they are playing in their home state, so that might give them some extra motivation. And I think Portland State could have a slight chance against Washington State. However, I think either of those wins are highly unlikely, and I think EWU has a better chance against UW as our players will be excited to showcase their talents against the "big boys" in many of their home state. I think there will be a lot of EWU friends and family at that game.

And, it seems no matter how good we are, we are FCS, and by virtue of that fact will be taken somewhat lightly by a good FBS team.

Par for the course...it's largely a perception thing rather than anything tangible. Try visiting some FBS team fan forums in the week prior to us playing them. Even IDAHO fans were predicting they'd beat us by 30-40 points, and we mopped the floor with them that year. Same thing with OSU fans last season.

This year's UW team has way more talent and coaching than the 2011 version. BB totally outcoached Sark and Holt that day. That won't happen against Chris Petersen. Too bad UW will play a game before facing EWU.

WSU will crush PSU. Like most of the other teams in the BSC, PSU can't play defense and WSU's offense will light them up. This game will be over at halftime.

Way more talent? Wow, that's saying something. Keith Price, Desmond Trufant, Chris Polk, ASJ, Jesse Callier, and Jermaine Kearse were decent.

The 2011 huskies had some very good players on their team, but they also had a lot of holes in their team as well.

Bishop Sankey too, although I don't think he saw more than a few carries against us.

BB won't out coach Petersen like he did Sark & Holt. Also, UW's Def Coor turned down USC to stay at UW. He is very good. Highest paid DC in PAC-12.

EWU will need to score 40+ to win and not sure that will happen based on UW's defense.

GOAL #1. Leave the game healthy. 2011 game ruined EWUs season with key losses on O & D line.

GO EAGS

I absolutely agree with this. I would take a healthy team over a win against UW any day of the week.

Yes the injuries in 2011 really impacted the potential of that team. Does an Achilles tendon rupture because the opposing player is a Husky? Does it have to be either a win or injuries?

I agree with Clawman. I recall beating Oregon State last season while also coming out of Corvalis pretty healthy! Injuries happen no matter who you're playing. Anyone else remember Jake Rodgers going out last season against Western Oregon??

Whoa, whoa, I wasn't implying that it was one or the other. I was simply saying that if we do lose this game, but with a low injury count, I would still be happy. This game is going to be hard hitting, intense, and a nail biter. These types of games tend to encourage injuries.

The difference between the 2011 Dawgs and this year's outfit will be the quality of the defense. That group was really impressive in manhandling WSU's receivers and completely shutting down their passing game. We will need those WRs to be able to handle very physical DBs, because that's where UW excels.

The best chance of pulling the upset is by playing a more cohesive game than they do. Eastern certainly did that in 2011. We did that against OSU last year. Had we played them a month later in Corvallis, it might have been a struggle. But we got them in game #1 and simply were performing at a high level when they were still working out the kinks.

This game will be at 12pm.
