No Montanas next year

Since Weber State is Idaho State's travel partner, I'm assuming their conference schedule next year will be the same as ISU's. Although nothing official has been released, I'm told the two Montanas will not be coming to Pocatello (and Ogden) next year. We'll be playing Idaho and EWU at home only. This is all part of the Big Sky's unbalanced conference scheduling.

WOW. You knew it was going to happen in the next few years but Montana and Weber appear to be two of the best teams next season. But the EW/Idaho trip is a tough one too.

Thank you for the update Bengal.

Why not reverse the schedule from last season? UND and UNCO only visits Poky and Ogden, while ISU and Weber only visit Sac and PSU. I'm sure that that would keep all of the teams schedules same. since each team faced the exact same thing. Maybe this is too simple of a process for the Sky to figure out.

Maybe that isn't something that is able to happen.

Oh well. Eastern is also going to be a contender and the Cats won't have to visit Cheney. However, Weber has been far more successful at Eastern's place than in Missoula.

Not sure it matters, because I don't know how we could consider ourselves "contenders." We finished in 8th place last season, with a mix of inexperience and inconsistency forthcoming. The new rules don't help either. Maybe the focus should be on getting one win vs. SUU

I agree with you on the contender front. We still have a lot to prove. I disagree with you on the rule changes. I don't see any of them that will hurt us, and a few of them will help with some of the issues we faced last year. Plus, if I am not mistaken, the rules should apply to everyone equally. Teams that like to flop a lot may be hurt the worst.

I'm sure that Montana will be the preseason favorite in the BSC. They return the best big man and a solid core behind him. We didn't lose anybody of note, but we were just a middle of the pack team last year. Eastern was good, but lost two of their top 3 players. PSU seems to have recruited well and SUU has been steadily improving. I would still put us in the top three by the end of the season, depending on injuries and the like. :coffee:

Apparently it's the Montana and Montana State women who will not visit Ogden and Pocatello this season; their men will play ISU and Weber only on the road this season. My bad.

With the 12 team tournament at the end of the regular season, it will be important to be one of the top 4 seeded teams. Those teams should get 1st round byes, and only have to win three games in a row to get to the dance. Only playing Montana and Eastern once puts a lot more pressure on us to win those games. We get Montana a home and Eastern on the road. We need to win them both, but a split would be acceptable.

As always, going on the road in the BSC is a huge challenge. Traditionally, we have done well in Cheney and we defend our home court well. Our roadies at ISU and SUU are difficult and a minimum of a split is required there also.

Montana is probably looking at this as a punch in the gut. :yikes:
