NAU is coming to town Thursday night. My original thoughts on NAU were that they had improved themselves by adding a couple of transfer guards, who might help with the ball handling and outside shooting. It doesn't seem to be working well for them. They are having a rough year so far. I might add that so are we. Normally, I would think that this game would be a cake walk. Right now, I'm not thinking that at all. Unless our guys suddenly grow a pair, this could be another tough game.

We may all become ardent WBB fans, just like at ISU. And...., spring football is just around the corner. :wtf:

Ugh...since last Saturday I have been dreading tonight. I'm worried about how our team will react to the home loss to ISU, and how hard they will play. Also, I'm not super excited to have to listen to the absolutely obnoxious promotions guy. Hearing his voice is like nails on a chalkboard. To me, that might be the biggest reason why I won't be renewing season tickets next year. A few times per game is fine, but every flipping dead ball?? I hate it!!

SATOG..... why are we wasting money on this guy?? He uses the sane phrases, game after game... He too is much to comfortable with his job. I say let him go....

I know of a few sponsors that have complained. All they really did was turned down his mic. I think this is his 5th or 6th season. Another example of Bovee not listening. Remember the season when he kept mixing up Farrs Jewelery and Farrs Fresh?

Yeah, you're much too comfortable with your job when you show up looking like a slob and think it's okay. There are way too many employees in the athletic department that are too comfortable in their jobs. Too little, or no, accountability. Why else is our women's HC still around? Lucky for her no one gives a flip about women's hoops. And why else is the whole marketing department still around?

Bovee is the head man right? If there are issues he is the one who needs to be questioned.

Okay?!? And this has what to do with the NAU game tonight? Last I checked Jerry, thankfully, isn't suiting up for the Cats. But, in the spirit of the conversation, I'll bite. Are there administrative issues? Sure...I've said it before and I'll say it again. Jerry is fine and does a decent job.

As for the game, this isn't a gimmie for the Cats. We have some serious issues right now, and until team chemistry improves and guys start fully buying into the game plan, Weber is going to struggle.

The almighty Talhad with 5900 posts taking his precious time to stoop down, and elaborate on one of my simple posts (#33 vs. what almost 6000?). No I don't post often, but when I do, I fill it is needed. I had a run in with Jerry Bovee in San Diego a few years ago and the guy is a condescending jerk. Nothing he said was sincere. I've seen turds that were more genuine. I was planning on giving the department a good amount of money from decades of living thrifty, but after meeting him, I decided no way. The guy will say anything to get into bed with a donor, but when he is asked to do his job, can't be bothered. Well, guess what, I've been watching and the issue isn't Randy Rahe, but Jerry Bovee. He is the issue and I stand by what I said. Thanks for giving me the time Mr. Talhad. Now, why don't you do something with your life instead of spending your life on a stupid fan forum acting like you know something. Oh, and give your buddy a "decent" kiss sometime!

Im looking forward to see how this reacts tonight. Will they prove that they arent the team thwy played like or will they continue to struggle? Thats what im interested in tonight. This team's response. It cohld say a lot about them

There is the fire I was looking for. Five times the number of assists than we had on Saturday. I think this is a response we all can agree about. Good win Cats and coach Rahe.

You said it

Our D was stifling NAU most of the night. We didn't give up many wide open shots tonight. We held their top scorer, scored 31 against UM, to 4 points. #32, their sharp shooter, got off on us a little bit, but didn't get anything in the last 8 minutes or so. When the bench came in, they didn't lay down either. We out rebounded them and I thought we handled their press quite well. We got more easy buckets off their press than we had turn overs. We still had more turnovers than I would like, but we took much better care of the ball.

Saturday's game should be a real shoot out. SUU plays almost no defense at all. However, they can score better than NAU.

I don't know if anybody on here even noticed, but there were some significant changes incorporated into our man D. I'll just leave it at that and see if any of you experts can tell me what the changes were. :coffee:

Well...the boys came out and thoroughly kicked the crap out of NAU. I think this might be the end of the road for Murphy. That Lumberjack team isn't very good. Regardless, there were a lot of doubts about our Cats, and Weber showed up to play and played hard. They have to do that every night. I know that Jerrick ended up being the player of the game (he is awesome), but for me, the player of the game was Doc Nelson. I owe him a big fat apology (actually I owe one to all of the freshmen). He is a freshman and will make freshman mistakes, but last night he played like a veteran and the team needed that. The bench was great last night. Randy has said that this team has the ability to develop into a very good team. I've had my doubts, and I'm sure they will return again at some point (hopefully they wont), but last night I saw the team grow up a bit. Maybe nobody leaves. If they start developing more, and since they are young, they can only get better and better. Yes, I know, NAU is terrible and Weber should have won that game, but beating a team coming off of an OT loss to MSU by 40...well, that says something.

Lots of question marks about the Sky. ISU, so far has been a surprise, and Montana has been dominant. What happened to PSU?

+1

Starting Chapman sure helps the bench -- and somebody lit a fire under Baker (agree he looks better off the bench).

Just a little love for Dallas. It is obvious that he has a soft touch, but he also plays soft. Had a nice down-low bump and lefty hook and seemed to have much more rhythm offensively. Randy has bragged up his summer play and said how bad his injury hurt. You could at least see a little promise last night.

If Chapman can find his rhythm, you can see how much we could improve from where we are at.

We had NAU's guards, #1, #3, #4, totally befuddled the entire game. You could see the look of despair and confusion on their faces. I think they were expecting to be able to come around a high pick and drive the lane. It happened against ISU, but never happened against NAU. We see a lot of it in the BSC and to be successful you have to stop it.

What we did to their 5th year transfer guards was impressive. They are a guard dominated team and we shut their guard play down. We started off showing hard off of the high pick. That was forcing the ball handler 5 to 10 feet further than their offense was comfortable with. When they called a TO and tried to adjust to it, we changed to showing soft, but defending the free throw line, driving lane. We then went back to the hard show and mixed it up all night long. We were banking on their guards not being able to make the entry pass over our bigs and that is the way it worked out. They are not a great passing team off the pick and roll. Their guards are used to being able to drive and score, or get fouled.

Offensively, we made a big effort to get the ball out and run at a faster pace. When you are playing good D, it seems like the O comes a lot easier. :coffee:

That was exciting basketball to watch. I loved it.

NAU is, as Charles Barkley would say, turrible. Just turrible.

I've got nothing else other than it's hard to be an NAU basketball fan right now.

Welcome back, Jack.

You have one guy that could be built around. I really liked #32. My only knock on him is that he disappeared in the last 10 minutes of the game. There are plenty of athletes on that team, They just don't seem to be playing together. When NAU was doing its best, you had less athletic, but higher skilled guys. Guys who could shoot the lights out. Guys like #32. Your transfer guards don't seem to be getting the job done for you. :coffee:
