@ Northern Colorado 10/19/19

The Fort Morgan Times looks at PSU vs Northern Colorado: https://www.fortmorgantimes.com/2019/10/15/football-portland-state-is-bears-homecoming-foe/

Sounds like weather should not be an issue (right now forecast says 64 degrees and light wind). We're just going to have to deal with the altitude.

Early start to the game this weekend. Kickoff scheduled for 1:05pm MDT which is noon here. Game will be on Pluto TV and Eleven Sports, which is available on DirectTV and Dish. Anyone knows where the viewing party is?

10-0 good guys, end of the first.

Defense looks good, offense looking OK. Williams kicking the ball out of the end zone every time and has a 56-yg field goal. Looks like we came to play this time.

Halftime, 24-14 Viks. Stupid penalty gave NoCo their first TD and the defense is beginning to miss some tackles. Viks need to keep the pedal down. We get the ball to start the half. It's getting interesting.

31-24 Viks end of 3rd. There is no way these refs are going to do a big game in this conference. Great that we are withstanding this big homer job.

So I missed about half the 3rd quarter.

Holy hell, what was up with that kick catching interference penalty on Gunt?

I figured seeing a Viking trending on Twitter today would be either Williams hitting the longest field goal in program history or Hoffman going beast mode on the Bears, but not something like this. :-\

Well, I've given up on what is targeting and what isn't. To me, it is just an excuse that officials can use to kick out anyone they want. Something they have at their disposal to completely alter the game to however way they want it. The hit on Alexander where there wasn't targeting was very questionable, and as the defense caused his helmet to come off, Alexander should have still been able to stay in the game. And the interference on Gunt, all angles I saw did not show any helmet to helmet contact, so how was that targeting and the hit on Alexander was not? Those two plays, the officials took our two best players out of the game, clearly trying to gift the game to Northern Colorado.

Oh, I’m in the same boat as you with regards to targeting. Seems pretty subjective across college football today and while the spirit is to prevent serious injury, it negates some great plays and prevents others by guys holding back.

My comment on the play with Gunt is that I don’t care if he hit the guy in the helmet or in the chest, the rules are clear, don’t hit the return man before the ball gets there, and when the ball drops 3-4 yards behind you a couple of seconds after you absolutely level the guy, it’s not a good look. I think Gunt is a heck of a player who gets it done in the classroom as well, but again, that play is not a good look for PSU football.

Fortunately it didn’t cost us points since UNC missed their field goal attempt.
