Northern Colorado

UNC has been all over the place. They can be very good, at times. However, they can be poor at times as well. The later witnessed by their recent game against ISU. I expect some serious D. :coffee:

Fouls, fouls, fouls and more fouls. All UNC has to do is drive and they get a free trip to the charity stripe.

Take the free throws away from both teams and it's a 30-23 advantage for Weber and the Bears have more free throws made than they have shots made.

Weber just hasn't looked as together and in sync as they were for the 5 games up to the EWU game. Starting with EWU they seems to have lost their edge and maybe even a little confidence.

Cannon is still Cannon again tonight. Think he is doing the best he can. Just can't contend with the speed on the floor. Randy played him very little tonite. He confirmed that "White Men Can't Jump" tonight also, when he got stuffed on a wide open layup that he shouldn't have even been caught up with on. Oh well, at least he made the two free throws.

The coach of our bigs needs to do some serious "foul" work with our bigs. Game after game the three of them are in foul trouble. Needs to get better, and soon!

I think we were lucky to win tonite against a UNC team with no inside game and a serious lack of overall talent. Oh well, I guess a win is a win even though we wouldn't have beaten any team with a 200 or better RPI with how we played tonight.

I agree with Baller, this team just isn't playing with the same level of confidence they played with before playing Eastern.

That was an ugly win, but I'll take it

Also the Griz got swept while Montana State swept the road trip…..hmmmmmm.

Could use some Eastern and No Dak losses now.

I think Weber had way more trips to the foul line tonight.

There were more fouls called against WSU in the first half and more against UNC in the second half. I don't think there was an advantage either way. The frustrating thing, to me, was the type of fouls being called on both sides. Defenders could be giving up ground or standing strait up, with arms strait up, and get called when the attacker initiated the contact. Most of them should have been non calls, IMO. Both teams were scratching their heads about the inconsistency between the rules and how they were called tonight.

As far as the game being close, I sort of expected as much. We are getting everybody's best D and the UNC coaches are quite familiar with our approach to the game.

Montana lost again, at Sac. It will be interesting going down the stretch. :coffee:

Fouls were WSU 22, UNC 27. UNC fouled a little extra at the end to try to catch us. It didn't work. We hit our shots for the most part.

Weber had 6 more free throws than UNC, hardly seems like way more, especially when 4 of them came in the last 17 seconds when UNC was purposefully fouling us at the end

The foul calls flipped from UNC's favor in the first half to our favor in the second half.

Maybe I'm one of the only satisfied Wildcats with that win. I was impressed with our confidence down the stretch -- particularly the calm that John displayed in leading the team at the point. We could have easily melted down with the crowd into, the enthusiasm of UNC to get the win and the odd calls that might have upset us mentally. Instead we were pretty calm and collected.

This is a tough road swing and the hardest way to do it by going all the way to North Dakota first and coming back through UNC. We were short on many shots and turned to ball over way too much -- which I think were both signs that we were tired from the start. With all the fouls being called (especially in the first half) we showed what a great and deep bench we have. Gritty, tough battle. The kids completely trusted our offense throughout. I liked what we showed.

One complaint. Good heavens. Is the UNC announcer just awful, or what? I watched the last 15 minutes in complete silence. I couldn't take that idiot a minute longer. I sure wish I could sync up KLO with the BigSky feed, but there's always a significant lag on the radio side. The guy was a complete tool.

I'm always satisfied with a win whether it's by 1 point or 40. Last night was ugly though, way too many turnovers and there was a few times where he took some really bad shots. Those were really my only complaints I had

I remembered while watching it why UNC's announcer is my least favorite. As a matter if fact when the game started I looked at my dad and said "great this tool again"

I don't turn the sound on to watch these things. I don't want to be influenced by the announcing. The frustrating thing about this stream was that UNC doesn't provide a full scoreboard banner. They don't show the game clock or shot clock. It really makes it a poor production. I have no idea why they don't do that little upgrade. It would probably cost very little to do. I tuned into Sac's game with UM and it had everything on the scoreboard banner, a much better production. If Sac can afford it, UNC certainly can. Just kind of shows you how much they really want to stay in the BSC, or D1 for that matter.

Even though the refs didn't seem to understand the rules of basketball, they were at least consistent. Maybe not in each half, but game over. The refs had little impact on that game, other than making a lot of people scratch their heads. :coffee:

I kept wondering why Senglin didn't start taking over the game like he usually does. I didn't know that he was still not quite 100% after his sprained ankle, I believe he suffered against either UI or EWU. Hill also had some kind of physical problem going on.

One thing I noticed was Cannon seemed to have a little bounce and swagger back in his game. Shooting may not be back yet, but the rest of his game seemed good. Cody John is playing exceptionally right now.

This was an ugly win, but I will take it. I hope that the experience that the wsu bench is getting will help us in the long run.

Now, we travel back to Idaho State. We need to play better.

This season feels like we have had no home games. I really enjoyed the exitement of the crowd with Eastern Washington.

We technically started the BSC season with 3 road games, came home for two and are now back on a three game road trip. I know we didn't really play a full game vs Idaho State in Pokeafellow but we still did travel up there. Our home games vs Idaho and Eastern were the first home games in a month. Nobody in the Big Sky has traveled quite as much as Weber has this year, which may be affecting their stamina.

THe good news is after Wednesday 7 of our last 11 are at home including the next three straight at home.

I want to echo UtahPirate's statement...that road trip is horrid. In years past the Cats best chance of getting a W is Thursday nights game. With Weber losing to UND on Thursday, I knew the game against the Cubbies would be rough. I was worried that the Cats wouldn't be leaving Greeley with a W. That was the worst Weber has looked since we played Denver. No matter, gotta give UNCO credit. They were ready to go. Linder and Smiley are going to be able to turn that program around fairly quick. Another reason why Weber may have looked bad against the cubbies is the fact that their two top coaches know Weber State fairly well; especially Smiley. He knew that Rahe wouldn't change things up too much. I still think we should have zoned them a bit to start the second half and thrown a zone at them every so often. But, UNCO's staff knew that our coach wouldn't make any changes. So...

As for the refs...YIKES!! That was absolutely horrid watching that game! I'll admit that the reffing has improved somewhat, but the men in stripes were not on their A game Saturday night in Greeley. Wow...that was ugly. Fictitious travels, offensive fouls, and a guy would get creamed no call, then suddenly there are three touch fouls in a row called. Poorly officiated game.

Final thought...I know there are a lot of us who utterly cannot stand Scott. His play by play is paltry at best, but the UNCO faithful like him and it is his job to be an abject homer for the cubbies. Regardless, I hate having to listen to his broadcast. SOOOOO obnoxious!

Cats got the W. Bring on the Bungles!
