Oden or Durant

While I'm cautious that this could turn into another Bowie/Jordan mistake like last time the Blazers had the #1 pick, I'm sure this time their pick will impact the team for the better no matter who they pick. If they pick Oden, whom I think they will, I'm positive he won't turn into the Sam Bowie of the league unless something like a devastating injury happened (knock on wood). On the other hand while Durant might have more overall talent, I don't believe he will become the next Jordan-esque player like Kobe or LeBron. And the Blazers like PSUVikings said need a center so I'm going with Greg Oden.

Allstar caliber small forwards are alot easier to find than dominating big men with the speed, quickness, skills and coordination of Oden. When you compare the numbers that Oden and Durant put up during the nba draft workouts a few weeks ago, Oden's numbers were amazing, he is quicker, faster, and stronger then Durant. Additionally, Durant was the only player there who could not bench 185. While it may happen, the likely hood of Durant turning into the next Jordan is far less than the the tandem of Oden/Aldridge dominating the front court for the next ten years.

I think that KP will make the correct choice. The Trail Blazer front office played the draft last year like a fiddle. They didn't listen to public opinion and made the best choices that they could make. Personally, I think that Oden would be the best selection. However, Durant is more NBA ready. Regardless, this is a great spot to be in. :-)

I think Durant will develop into a Jordanesque player and the Blazers would be making a mistake not to pick him. I wish they could do something with their 4 2nd rounders and current personnel to trade for the 2nd overall pick along with the first to get both Oden and Durant. Wouldn't that be something. Or maybe trade for Kobe? Any way they decide to go, they have to power in their hands to do something that will turn their franchise around.

Durant is more like Kevin Garnett than Jordan in terms of body type and position coming in to the draft (think Adam Morrison last year-great scorer, no other abilities yet). If he were to bulk up and get stronger, he could be that type of player with even more range. However, if he moves to the 4 it will take at least 3 years. Oden is ready to play center in the NBA now and compete with the likes of Dwight Howard, Amare Stoudemire, and maybe even Yao.

Maybe Yao?

Oden will take a year to adjust, then he'll abuse Yao. Yao is a stick figure.

So is Durant. He's going to get abused on NBA floors. He's a 3-and-a-half, to boot... I want to see if he can defend against quick small forwards, and get away with not being able to muscle up in the paint. It's not the way to bet.

Oden is the clear first choice.

Well said. I think Oden is the pick, although I won't be upset if they take Durant. Both are going to be very good players, and the team will be good with either one joining the nucleas of Roy and Aldridge.

Greg Oden, no question about it. He's the fit Portland needs and passing up a center w/ that upside would be a huge mistake.

Rumor is Randolph to the Knicks for Channing Frye, a guard, and more cap room.

Yup, Portland's sitting pretty now after trading away Randolph for Frye and Steve Francis. Portland might be the most improved team in the league next season. The jailblazers are a thing of the past.
