We've all concluded that EB3's strength is his running/scrambling ability. Maybe he should be a running back that can throw and Gunner is the QB.

EB3 was a QB last year, one that got Eastern to the final game last year, but he's a RB in 2019? Possible, but not probable. Talkington has very little playing time last year or this year. Eastern is close to the middle of the 2019 season. What is the problem this year? Coach Best should know by now. Is it EB3's attitude, distractions, lost of confidence, overrated last year, attempting to play in a new system? Has he lost a step? Have the teams we've played this year seen enough films to peg him? Has anyone in this group heard him in a 2019 post game coach/player interview. I remember at least one after game interview last year, and he appeared very confident in his expertise. I've watched him in three games this season and to me he's improving also because of the line, or receiver improvement? A couple years ago that Gage was being coached against what be did best naturally and that didn't improve Eastern's results. Or, do the individuals on this blog, aside from me of course, harbor impossible expectations.

From what I'm seeing, it's sort of a two-pronged problem. First and foremost, he appears to misread his reads and doesn't take off with the ball often enough. There were times it didn't matter what UND showed him in his read, he was 100% committed to giving the ball to the RB. When a defense has nothing to fear in a zone read or RPO scheme in regards to the QB making a play with his feet, it sort of defeats the whole purpose of that type of play.

Second, his passing has been erratic. We know he can throw good balls, but he's struggled at times this season. Really, you can chart a lot of it back to that pick 6 against JSU. He was rolling up until that play, and that error caused him to start second-guessing everything he did. He seems like the type of player who needs to play loose, and when he plays tight, the results aren't there.

This is also probably why EWU has only won 3 games away from Roos Field in his starts (2017 @ UND, 2018 @ UNCO and PSU).

As coaches, they need to let Eric be an athlete. Part of his game is making plays when things break down. To me, it’s as if he’s been told to be a pocket QB and that’s just not his style.

I strongly doubt he's being told to stay in the pocket or hand the ball off. I'd think the coaches expect him to make the reads they work on, and if he doesn't make the read accurately, there's not much else to do. There have been more times than I can count when the proper read was for the QB to take the ball upfield, and he just didn't for whatever reason.
