Offensive Coordinator

Dave Schramm in my opinion has to go as offensive coordinator he did nothing with the offense all year they held this team back. I didnt see any improvement from the start of the year to the end our QB play was bad and never improved just no imagination in play calling or schemes either. I feel bad for the defense they carried the team all year and if they didnt dominate the game we lost. We need to find somebody that can adapt their offense to the personal we have not make the players adapt to your system that doesn't work.

I wholeheartedly agree. It is a high school style offense that didn’t play to Weber State’s strength. No adjustments were made. I like Constantine, but you need a better passer who is mobile in the Big Sky. If they had last year’s offense, it could have been a good shot at winning it all.

There was quite a bit of improvement through the year. The offense was a disaster in September.

That said, the experiment with Jenks was frustrating. He clearly wasn’t ready to play and Schramm kept putting him in and ruining the continuity with the offense.

As for yesterday, we hardly used any motions or shifts. Somehow managed to throw 0 screens to our RBs to slow down the rush. The pass routes were simplistic and forced our receivers to win early without the help of stacked formations or rub routes. The Wildcat run plays were awful and killed drives.

I get that we had a Sophomore QB, underclass receivers, no TE, a 2nd string RT, and a 3rd string LG, but the gameplan left a lot to be desired. We let them tee off on Constantine all game.

Count me as mostly agreeing on all points made:
- Not impressed whatsoever with the OC and if he's shown all he can do, I hope Hill can find someone better.
- I do think the offense improved over the coarse of the season but to a small degree. If it weren't for an outstanding defense and strong running by Davis, the season would have looked much different.
- Constantine is young but has plenty of experience now. He needs to be more accurate with his throws but at the same time the OLine needs to give him another second of time. Much of the season he's been pressured, hurried. I have not been impressed with the overall routes run, most being deeper fly routes, not a lot to keep the secondary guessing. Not utilizing or having a quality TE really hurts from last season.
- They need some mobility at QB. It doesn't have to be a true run threat but some called roll outs or sideways movement to escape a pressured pocket is a must unless the OLine is stronger at pass rush.
- Yes! Where was any motion or shifts yesterday? Maine used a lot of it in the 2nd half especially and it helped their O just enough. I sat through that long, 2nd half wondering why there was never an attempted screen, at least that I remember. Not much in the way of a jet sweep not that it probably would have been effective but the O was just so vanilla and anemic.
- Weber is their own worst enemy coming out of a timeout or other play stoppage that allows them to go to the sideline. Their 1st plays after are almost always bad, if not horrendous. Speaking of which, they have a tendency to have to use timeout early often.

Having lost Cantwell and Vollert is huge and Weber probably overachieved this year on the backs of the defense but the offense should have been better than they were, at least by the end of the season. I didn't expect them to run wild against the #1 FCS rush defense but the play call and creativity was sorely lacking.

The improvement throughout the year was obvious. Of course we should keep the current coaching staff in tact.

No... Just no. I guess you missed that last game? Atrocious was the play calling. We ended the game at -1 yards rushing. This offense was the lamest I have seen with Hill here. No double passing, no flea-flickers, no screens, no play action, nothing other than runs between tackles, and skinny posts. No sort of trickery at all on offense. We ran the wildcat inside the 30, two times in a row... :wall: The dang bubble screens were a disaster all year. We need help on offense real bad.

We had one game where we used a TE, and other than that, non existent. I still cant believe that we didnt use Rasheed more throughout the year. Too many games he went touch-less with the rock. If we can find someone to toss 250-300 yards a game, and a few TD's, we can be good. Until then, I worry.

I’m not sure why we never put Shaheed in a fly sweep motion either. Steal some plays from the Chiefs and Tyreek Hill. We have the fastest guy on the field, but never use him to stress the defense pre-snap.

Their LBs were abusing our RBs on blitzes yet we didn’t try one slip screen?

I understand we had a young offense, but last week was the 15th week of the season. Why didn’t we have any new wrinkles in the game plan? Oh that’s right, we lined up in the Wildcat :wall:

Oh my L, I'd forgotten about that one but during the game when it happened :wtf: I about lost my mind! I might have offended the ears of the BYU fans sitting next to me

I watched the Dakota's semi last night and was impressed with how fundamentally sound the Bison are all the way around. I'm sure 24 Seniors helps some but I still noticed little things all game long all over the field that elevates them above their talent, experience, etc. Despite a gimpy Jackrabbit QB, both offenses are quite talented.

Watching Eastern vs Maine now and it's very apparent how Weber's inept offense handicapped a superb defense-- all year long, but as much as any other time vs Maine. Eastern is similar to NDSU in that they are quite good on both sides of the ball. The biggest strength in EWU's 21-0 1st quarter start is the OC play call. +2 in turnovers has certainly helped but Eastern is constantly giving different looks and moving the Maine D East-and-West and North-and South. Spreading the secondary with quick throws in the flat.

I think Weber is going to have to be much improved offensively next season to help offset the loses defensively to be competitive. Hill is awesome and I have faith he can work more magic.

I am never about getting rid of people at the first spot of trouble, but the offense was bad...especially the scheme. Schramm had an immobile QB and kept using an option of a QB keeper? To play in the Big Sky, you need great QB play. Constantine is a good kid and had moments, but it should be an open competition next year and a JC or FBS transfer should be a possibility. If Schramm stays, Hill has to override him on his calls when needed...like when he tries to run the Wildcat two consecutive times.

Maine stacked the line and Weber State moved down the field on the first drive, but went away from it even though Maine still stacked the line? No RB screens on blitzes or rub routes? A half back pass would have been wide open. It’s a dead horse, but it’s bad and needs an overhaul, it handicapped the team and Weber State could never put teams away. EWU was smart and made Maine have to play the pass, which opened the run. Oh well. Wildcat basketball and Cubs baseball will have to keep me entertained until football. I think this could be a tough year ahead with losses on defense and same ole offense, but I like and trust Hill...so maybe I will be surprised.

Schramm's history doesn't exactly scream success. Relieved as OC at Utah after only 7 games. Fired at Fresno after 3 seasons. And sat out 2 full seasons before coming to Weber.

As has been said, running the wildcat vs Maine might have been the stupidest offensive call I've ever seen. Maine is stopping Weber dead cold on every run when they don't know Weber is running it. So you tell them you are for sure running prior to the snap and don't think they are going to stop it? Makes no sense at all. And then you run it again? And the way Eastern abused Maine's defense makes Weber's offense versus Maine look even worse.
