Official ‘Fire Katz’ Thread

We can't close games. Terrible clock management, poor planning in end of game situations, giving up big leads, no swagger, no confidence. Fire Katz!

I figured this needed its own thread given the recent implosions in the past couple of games.

I’ll just add that almost 5 years in is more than enough time to know whether or not Katz can turn this program around. Given the talent and versatility on the roster, there is no excuse for the inconsistent performances throughout this season and/or the failure to win games with a considerable lead. Katz made this program competitive but it’s clear he cannot deliver where it matters most: in the win column. That said I hope Katz and this team goes on an amazing run the rest of this season and makes us detractors look like chumps.

I'll hold off on a final verdict until the season is over, but I'm leaning towards the time to go column. Its hard to give him too much slack considering the facility situation. The gym is definitely holding back decent recruiting. But the floor and time management raise a lot of concern.

Bump. The way this team performed in the final month of the season should put to rest any idea that Katz can turn this program around. By far the most balanced and versatile roster Katz has ever had here and he can't even at least get this program into the BSCT even during one of the weakest BSC lineups top to bottom. Maybe year 6 will be the year. :ohno:

Doubt it highly.

I don't see Katz going anywhere anytime soon. I can see him being here another five. There just isn't any real investment in the basketball program. I don't know if its because they don't feel they can compete withy he Kings and NBA, if we're just a football school or if Katz simply has the administration drinking his Kool-aid. He definitely has the recruiting disadvantage, but the on court desision making is becoming extremely frustrating.

If the Event Center ever progresses before hell freezes over, maybe the administration will make a significant hire. But for now, I see Katz retaining the helm.

Are you guys serious? Do you seriously think we were better off under the last four disaster coaches? This is seriously like replacing Sperbeck. We're SO much better off than we were under Mooshagian for football, and the same is true for hoops.

Give Katz some cash for recruiting and new digs. PLEASE don't judge him based on what we currently have. Remember that we're better than we were, we have nothing resembling a player abuse scandal, just about every player is eligible, and we have no fear of going on probation any time soon. That wasn't exactly so not too long ago....

Yes, the program is better off since Katz arrived. But like Volek, Katz has moved the nut as far as he can.

Frankly, of all the Hornet sports, MBB is the only sport that I could care less about. Guess it comes from 20+ yrs of losing and expecting the outcome.

If the school is going to continue to attempt to disguise DI basketball with Hornet Gym and 500 fans, my interest, unfortunately, is ho-hum.

The baseball and softball squads had an excellent weekend. If you want a Hornet sport to watch and enjoy take in a few games at The John or Shea stadium.

The Nest used to rock, we used to compete and win against UM, Weber... We played MUCH tougher schedules, were actually fun to watch.

The Hornets were 14-15 this year and have NO excuse for not winning 16+ games and making the playoffs this year. No missed bus rides for your best player to make a point, no leaving the team for personal reasons for your best defender/rebounder, no momentum to carry into the offseason. The Hornets went out with a whimper.

While I am no fan of Katz, there's no chance he gets walking papers this offseason. I would say though that he is 100% on the hot seat to make the playoff next year or risk losing his job. Luckily he has a solid core returning (Dickson, Eberhard and Jason Segel were great Hornets, but can be replaced). We're likely to have a freshman at the 5 next year (Stuteville 6'10") and a transfer at the 4 (Tiffin 6'9") with Salley, McKinney and Garrity rounding out our first 5.

Maybe Katz can spend the off season getting Garrity to shoot more!
