Officiating

The younger of the gray-haired referees last night made (or didn't make) calls in the first three quarters that clearly and inarguably favored the Bengals. Fortunately the Viks were strong enough to overcome his bias. I guess that two fair referees out of three is not bad in the BSC. I have an opinion of why guys like this ref are biased but I would like to hear from you guys on the question of . . . why? I think this is a major issue in the BS and needs some dialogue.

I bleed green/white/black and I am of the opinion that the Big Sky Conference officials are terrible with zero bias. They will hose the best and worst of teams on any given night. The conference is worse because of them.

I was nervous the whole ISU game because of the official you mentioned. Last night's refs were better. Luckily, our team has been good enough that even bad officiating couldn't help teams like Montana stay with us.

Re: Big Sky Conference officiating:

An MSU fan/poster over at Bobcatnation said it best...... "Eric Curry makes me sad."

Big Sky bball referees are pretty bad.

I find it both odd and a bit disconcerting that two of the three refs in the championship game were just suspended a few weeks back for a horrible blown call that cost ISU a chance of a win. What does the Big Sky Conference do in return....reward these two with the opportunity to call the championship game. Eric Curry, in particular, seems to be very whistle-happy to me and controls the flow of the game.

This is not meant as a gripe as to why PSU beat my alma mater (NAU). It was an ass whooping from midway through the first half on and 100% fair and square. PSU had the necessary depth and athleticism and I hope it carries over into the NCAAs. I'd love to see PSU have a repeat of Montana or Weber's run a few years back.

One grip is I was sad the community didn't offer better support but from talking to people I met it seems that everyone and their dog gives a sh** about the Ducks, Beavers and Blazers instead. For being the largest university in the state I can't help but believe that the students can do a better job at showing up for something completely free, both ticket and transportation on the Max. I realize it's a big city and there are lots of options but the student section on Tuesday was pretty weak (improvement on Wednesday). Minor complaints but instead of focusing on the negative I hope the community realizes what it has in this team and coach is special and shows up before the opportunity is gone.

I had a blast in Portland even with a Jacks loss. You have a beautiful and friendly town there. I'll be a Vikings fan next Thursday/Friday.

Glad you had a good time here, mtjack, and hope you come again. As for the attendance, you're right - all the focus is on UO/OSU/ Blazers. It could begin to change this year. The NCAAs briefly captures that focus. It'll be up to next year's team to hold it. Word is that a couple red shirt transfers will be very good next year, we've got a 6'11" freshman coming in who's supposed to be good (as freshmen go), and of course thre's still some recruiting to be done. God willing, that'll hold the crowd.
