...Checking in on the ASU game on Fox Sports and who's shooting a free throw but Ruben Boykin's younger brother, Jamal, for the Cal Bears.

Too bad the allure of NAU/Flagstaff didn't bowl him over when Duke and Cal were recruiting him.

I was a student at NAU at the time when Ruben Boykin Jr. was playing for NAU. The student manager of the team at the time just happen to have the same major as me and we had the same classes for about 2 years. We became good friends and he always gave me the inside on what went on during practice and other information about the players and the team.

He actually told me once that Ruben's younger brother was interested in joining him at NAU, but Ruben discouraged him from doing so. Apparently, Adras is a real a--hole and treats his players like crap during practice. My friend told me many stories of Adras blowing up on the players and even on him (the manager) in front of the rest of the team. I got the impression that Adras was a hothead and border line verbally abuses his players. That was one of the reasons why Ruben's brother didn't attend NAU to play alongside his brother. That and the fact that schools like Duke and Cal were after him :P

Small talk conversations I had with some players on the team during the same time confirmed the stories my friend had told me. Many of the players on the team did not like Adras and some even left the team after only one season. It kinda sucks that NAU may have lost some very talented players because they didn't get along with the coach. Oh well, that's the nature of college Bball.
