Onwuasor leaves SUU

Noticed in a Des News article today that Randy Onwuasor, who averaged 23.6 ppg last year, is leaving Souhern Utah as a grad transfer this summer. Will be interesting to see where he lands.

Well first you'd have to locate some SUU fans. You clearly won't find any on the SUU message board. Onwuasor intrigues me because he was one of the least efficient players in the league last year, yet he clearly has some talent. So I'll be interested to see at what level he lands.

24 ppg on 19 shots pg is not too bad..one of most productive players in BSC last season

High usage guy on a very bad team. Had more TOs than assists (averaged over 3 TOs per game) and shot just 40 percent from the floor. Big physical guy who averaged 6.6 boards a game. Again, lots of mixed messages from this kid. Will be interested where he lands.

I agree. He was a one man show. He may have been more efficient if they had a serviceable point guard or more talent around him. I don't think he will get as much scoring if he lands at a more established program. There just are not a lot of open spots left right now. He could slide to D11 or something else. It didn't sound like SUU was that broken up about losing him. He may have had other baggage. :coffee:

He's being recruited by Oregon and Gonzaga I'd say those qualify as Division 1.

Then why did he end up at SUU? There must be something else going on. I totally agree that he is a very good player. I just don't know what the rest of the situation is. Somebody will pick him up. :coffee:

He did well for himself, he landed at LSU. It will be interesting to see how he does. I wish him the best, but he sure screwed SUU over. I think they were counting on him.

LSU is a far cry from Division 2.

mattman...you have to understand...this is oldrunner, if the guy isn't purple, he wasn't good enough for Weber or Weber didn't want him....that's just the way oldrunner is...purple or no good, overrated, got baggage or whatever olds's "undisclosed" (that means non-existent) sources can conger up....

No matter what anyone might think, Oldrunner has the avatar that is the best match for the poster him(her)self! And it's not even close. In the history of curmudgeons:

Oscar the Grouch
George Patton
Dr. House
Archie Bunker
Mr. Burns
Ralph Cramden

no doubt, given that avatar, Oldrunner is among the greats. So don't push him too far if you know what's good for you!

UtahPirate...Oldrunner and I have met before...we have mutual respect (I think!!) for each other but that doesn't mean we can't poke each other in the eye once in a while...it's all in the love for basketball...(just my love isn't purple)

But he is a decent guy (for a Weber fan that is)...
I think you're okay as well, for one of those Cali. flaming liberals.

BTW, I never said he wasn't a good player, just that a player of his caliber landing at SUU is a hint of 'baggage'. I have no knowledge of any such thing, just suspicion. He is a very talented player and he landed in a great program. How he fits in remains to be seen. I wish him the best, even if he does wear red, or what ever his new colors are.

Personally, I happen to agree. Not saying that Onwuasor isn't a good basketball player, he is. He might have had some baggage, and that is why he ended up in Cedar. He needs to thank SUU for helping him. Without SUU, he doesn't have the opportunity he has now.

To say that he used SUU is tad misguided though. SUU got a solid year out of him and rode him to some upsets, and a hot streak to end the season. But, he did get more from the deal. He got a degree from SUU, perhaps got himself on the right track -cleaned up any baggage, if he had any- and most importantly got some much needed attention. Now, he has a better chance of getting additional notice, accolades, and possibly a better career in basketball (he would have gotten that at SUU too, but it is easier to do those things at LSU). No matter, if he ever wants to get to the "league" he will have to learn how to hit outside shots. He is dismal at it. Remember Will Cherry and he was a far better defender and shooter than Onwuasor. Also, the refs in the SEC aren't going to put him on the line 10-15 times a game. He will have to score points in other ways.
