Open Game Dates

Interesting fact, unless something has been finalized without a press release, we don't have a single non-conference home game yet for either 2018 or 2019.

I think the only open date is our opener- which can be played either Aug 25 or Sept 1, which will be followed by two road games including WSU in Pullman. If we don't have anything locked down within a month or so, I'd expect to see us schedule someone like Eastern Oregon or Montana-Western. It's not ideal, but it's a little late to start contacting a lot of teams for home/homes.

I’m still holding out hope that we are the FCS Opener, and will have JSU (who still hasn’t announced their schedule or season opener) at Home. I know, I know... wishful thinking!

At this point, I don’t think we will get a money game or FCS game, so will probably take on a D2 at home. I’m ok with that. I want 5 home games.

Don’t forget, strength of schedule doesn’t matter, right? (Insert sarcastic smirk)

Five home games is requisite. I'd rather avoid playing Central, that's a no-win. If we're going to play a game that gives us no street cred, let's get someone we'll beat 142-0. And we've already got the money game. Whatever we do, it needs to be a game we're assured of winning. We saw what happens when you go thru the non-conference slate at 1–2 last year.

Honestly, I'd rather play a lower to mid level FBS game...the DII's just don't do it for me. Kind of a lose-lose situation.

On the other hand, if strength of schedule doesn't matter, I can see the appeal of the DII games.

Our open date next year needs to be a home game, I don’t care if we play Mead High school, we need a home game. Based on what the playoff committee showed us this year, we can go ahead and schedule a drop down game because it’s more about the amount of wins rather than who you played and beat...

We should schedule 2 home games in 2019 as well with a 4 game non conf schedule that year and we already have 2 road games scheduled.

Our schedules for 2020 and 2021 look good

I giggled at the Mead HS comment.. thanks for the laugh this AM. I agree with you, though. Just like I said above, strength of schedule CLEARLY didn’t matter, so scheduling a drop down game is a no-brainer.

Plus, I feel jealous when I hear how many home games Montana, NDSU, or many others have. So, season opener would be ideal at HOME! When was the last time we opened season at home!?? 2012? It’s like Christmas, if so!

Based on the budget shortfall and comments from the university, I would think a 2nd FBS opponent is likely.

Hopefully that’s not the case, but I’m afraid the interim AD is going to use the budget deficit as an excuse for another road game, hope I’m wrong...

It's all about the money...not playoffs. We're back to a couple FBS games a season(whenever possible).

Part of the problem is we’re already committed to tough FCS OOC opponents as the third game. Two FBS with a home patsy is barely palatable but two with an NAU or WIU amounts to shitty support and priorities from the university.

My very slight understanding of the new ADs budgetary tasks is that there are lots of long-hanging fruits that can reduce the deficit. Throwing a team under the bus is likely near the bottom of the list. The AD still has a vested interest in teams doing well, not sacrificing the success of a team and future revenues for a short term reduction in spending. I think the more obvious ways to get the deficit under control involve the AD handling in house tasks personally instead of delegating to a team of employees, as well as shrinking the number of department employees on the payroll. I'd expect the number of charter flights utilized over the course of the season is also on the block. A couple of years ago, we only chartered once a season and to playoff games (which the NCAA pays for). I believe we chartered to just about every road game last year. Chaves spent an awful lot of time being involved in all kinds of NCAA committees, which I doubt will be the case for the new AD. Clearly, having some "leverage" with the NCAA meant nothing when it came for playoff selections last season.

I think a good portion of who we play in 2018 is out of our hands at this point. It comes down to a small amount of teams who need a game. I spent some time looking at week one and week 8 FBS openings and looked at teams that had an open non conference game in their schedule and I couldn’t find one. I think we are FCS or below. Hopefully it’s at home.

Compare our athletics staff directory to Montana.

We have 4 associate or assistant AD’s. They have 8. They have four people in their compliance office. We have one. They double us up in staffing for business operations and facilities management.

It’s not an expense problem.

To All,
Spoke to one of the VP yesterday, I was told the incoming Intro AD is already looking for a game for September. I was also told she was AD at Univ of Texas, San Antonio, when she got there the budget was a little over 1 million, when she left is was $28 million. Sounds like she knows how to raise funds. Of course that is Texas, where everything grows very big. Hope when she get here she can make some noise with funds for Athletic Funds. Vic E. Wallace

To All, Two games last night, men and women BB both won. One of our recruit from Colorado is no longer coming to EWU, his mother wanted him to attend Naval Academy. :( Great lost. Also Samuel Ebucam, Rams LB is in town, will be leaving for LA. on Sunday. Great seeing the young man, and he is happy he came back to visit. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :D :D :D :D Interim AD should be in town Feb 12th. Maybe will have an opportunity to meet her once she arrives. Go Eagles!!!!! Vic E. Wallace

Do you know which recruit it was?

Palm Springs Eag,
You are correct, I found out at the Basketball Game Thursday Night from his escort when he came in for his visit. As much as I hate to see any loosing our Players, it is good for any young man or lady to accept, they will be proud they served their Country, secondly there are two checks monthly, Medical and dental, and many more benefits. I went in Jan 6 1954, and there were some times I wished I hadn't joined, once the 1st of our 7 children came, I was in for 20yrs, 24 days. Thanks for doing the research. We are expecting approximately 16 Recruits at Northern Quest NLI, it is going to be early, my daughter and myself will be there. Hope to see many more Eag Fans there. Vic E. Wallace
