The Wildcats have two options before them.

1. Pick themselves back up off the ground, get back to work, and keep developing as players and as men of character.

2. Pack it up and quit.

Personally, I feel every single player should ask themselves how tough they are and how they should react to this loss. Two option are before them. Success doesn't happen immediately. On the road to success, failures, at the time, are rarely measured positively, but applied sagely, and when humbly approached, failure helps develop. These instances build us and make us who we are. Do we give up? Or do we work harder, keep trying, and step up and climb higher? This utter disaster stings but this is a chance for each player to lift themselves higher. If a player can't handle the ridicule of defeat and humbly approach their job with a desire to work harder, then he needs to sit and someone else put in.

If you fall down, you get back up! Failure is a block that greatness can be built upon. You must work harder and TRY again. Yesterday is over. Can't do anything about it. Learn from it, gain from it and be aware of your limits...not the challenge begins. Take it one step farther and use this to climb higher. The heights of success cannot be reached without the failure of defeat. Cowards back down. Be men of action and do what is hard. Take the next step and leave this behind you. Go forward!

In my opinion Tal's post missed the point altogether. Of course they always have the option of picking themselves up or not. It's a given...

But the real issue isn't continuing to practice hard and play hard if the objective is to win! Of course any team must do those things if they are to win. It's a given...

The real issue is we have a weak offense because the coaches assigned to that side of the ball (specifically the OC) are in over their head. They have had a season and almost a half to install an effective offense and they are still as lost today as they were when they played their first game against ASU at the beginning of last season. They have not gotten better.

A good argument can be made that they have indeed, gotten worse on offense. If for no other reason, the argument is strong that their current QB is less skilled at the position than their last season's starter was. Additionally the argument can also be made that the OC has failed to (1) implement a competent offensive system and (2) failed to develop a skilled QB.

Furthermore, it is more than obvious that whoever makes up the selection committee, when selecting head coaches for the past umpteen years, lacks the credentials to make good selections. And for those of you who were Mac fans, he was just an average coach with an average record.

Yes, it is a bit early to proclaim that Jay Hill cannot do the job. But if he is going to get the job done he must find an OC and a QB coach who is capable. Those two positions could be filled by one guy. If the offense were good the defense is more than good enough to support victories. The "D" gave up Friday in the second half because it became more than obvious that the "O" couldn't do the job. Can you blame them?

We can still salvage 3-4 victories (possibilities are Idaho State & Cal-Davis) and that is an improvement over the past season. Even if it is improvement predicated on the fact that there are 4 teams this year who are easily as bad or worse than Weber, it is still improvement and gives Hill a chance to hire a better OC/QB coach. And to find a better QB in the recruiting process.

So yes Tal, I agree that the team has to pick themselves up and recommit to playing as good as possible and lets hope its enough to beat ISU & Davis.

I like what both of you had to say but there is one thing that keeps popping into my head and it's Justin Shaw. From what we have all read and seen, the coaching staff really likes this kid. I personally don't have anything against him either but does he give the Wildcats the best chance to win? Does Weber even have a quarterback on the roster that gives them a chance to beat a team that is better or even on the same level as them?

Yes it's Green... 2014 stats:
PASSING GP Effic Cmp-Att-Int Pct Yards TD Long Avg/G
Billy Green 11 121.7 194-318-8 61.0 2055 11 64 186.8
Jadrian Clark 6 132.0 57-109-6 52.3 902 7 52 150.3
Now compared to 2015 stats:
PASSING GP Effic Cmp-Att-Int Pct Yards TD Long Avg/G
Jadrian Clark 5 88.4 67-142-6 47.2 722 3 68 144.4
Justin Shaw 2 91.9 5-10-3 50.0 82 1 46 41.0

The numbers don't add up, everything points to Green as the best quarterback on the roster, I don't get it. Turnovers were supposed to be the reason why Clark beat out Green but by the numbers Green's 2014 11 games vs Clarks 2014+2015 11 games, it's still a no brainer that Billy is the best QB for WSU to win.
Green threw a pick every 39.8 pass attempts and threw 11 TD's to the 8 INT's
Meanwhile Clark is throwing a pick every 20.9 passes and has thrown 10 TD's to 9 INT's

So the question is why has our best QB been relegated to 4th string...

Catfan, you are right on. Why is Billy Green not being given a chance. He couldn't do any worse than the two who have already tried and failed. And his past here indicates that he would do a lot better. Maybe Green is injured or maybe he is in the coach's dog house for some unexplained reason. It is impossible for me to believe that these coaches can't see that Green is the far-better QB. Why doesn't someone living in Ogden find a way to ask this question of Hill?

Where is Garside on this stuff. He should ask why Billy is not in this mix.

I tweeted @BrandonGarside @CoachJayHill asking "Why is WSU's best (statistical) '14 QB @billyGreen10 riding the pine behind Clark, Shaw, Leckington, & Corpus?
and Brandon's reply was "Because it's 2015" :wall:

Not the best of answers by Brandon, but technically, he is right. It is a new season. I'm just beside myself about the Shaw situation. Why the HELL do you pull a kids red shirt 4 games into the season? I would have played either Leckington or Green before putting a true freshman into the game. I admitted before the season started that he was our best QB, but needed time to develop. Throwing him into the fire isn't going to help. He had three TOs in three drives.

Clark is not the guy though! We need a better option to lead the Cats offensively. Final thought, we need more balance on offense. SUU knew that they just had to bottle up the Cats running game. If the Cats can't run the ball, they can't do anything. SUU knew that and did just that. SUU totally limited the Cat's ability to run and that shut us down on offense. We need more balance and better play calling. I don't know why the coaches feel that limiting the offense by continuing to go with a QB who can't pass is the best option. We desperately need a guy who can pass the ball. If Jadrian isn't running then it is time to sit him and go with someone else.

My thoughts at QB.

Jadrian should switch positions. Linebacker, safety, special teams coverage. Somewhere he can use his noggin for hitting not thinking.

Maybe we don't have a QB. But pick ONE. Shaw if you really believe, Green if past experience means anything, Leckington if he truly is the number two, or even Hilinski. But make a choice for the FUTURE and coach them up. If that means simple offense and running the ball primarily, so be it. Lots of teams are above average simply by adapting to what they have.

I don't see any evidence that the coaching staff has a plan and that is a shame.

Come on guys, I can't be in all places at once. I'm wrapping up media day stuff today, plan on going to practice and will ask more questions about the QB situation.

Love the passion, though. Wish there was more of it.
