There are very few teams I'll admit to HATING... not just disliking, but outright hating, but Oregon is one of them (Gonzaga the only other I can think of...)

I hope we can attract a herd of Spokanite bandwagon fans who never even went here either. Just sayin'.

The thing is, we don't really need to. While it would be nice to get a larger number of casual sports fans out from Spokane, that number isn't going to increase massively without a number of years of basketball relevance.
The key in immediate improvement is attracting a larger % of the 35k + alums in the Spokane area alone, that would do wonders for our attendance numbers in all sports. I know there's more to it than that, but we needs our alums to start going to EWU basketball games and STOP going to Gonzaga stuff. That was my point.
We made some nice strides in football attendance this season.....I hope the students and alums alike will support what at first glance seems to be an invigorated basketball program. That goes for the women's team, too. They look like they're going to have a good squad.

I was thinking both in regards to football and hoops. So I agree with what you are saying here. As always the key is winning. We need to establish some relavancy by competing for conference titles and tournament bids and re-establishing some serious rivalries before alumni outside the core will choose a trip out to Cheney over watching the Zags on TV.

Well, at our level the key is winning. Ultimately, what draws fans is relevancy. Sure, for the fans that show up right now, EWU will always be relevant to them because they're diehard alums. But the casual fan want their team(s) to be relevant on the big stage. At our level of football/basketball, winning is key to relevancy, unlike the big BCS conference, hence why WSU still draws people away from us, despite their lack of winning.
