OT: Chapman to Weber

Weber State made it official, announcing that 6-9 Utah forward Brekkott Chapman is transferring to the Wildcats. Chapman will have to sit out a year and will have two years of eligibility beginning in the 2017-2018 season. Chapman was listed as a top 50 recruit when he signed with the Utes after averaging 19 points and 8.6 rebounds as a senior at Roy. He hasn't been enormously productive at Utah, averaging 5.1 points and 2.5 rebounds a game during his career, but he'll get a lot more playing time against much lower competition at Weber. I expect him to be a big impact player for the Wildcats.

On another local basketball note, Utah Valley announced they are building a $3.5 million basketball practice facility. That UVU program has really made some strides in recent years (and beat both Weber and ISU last year) and I see them as a growing challenger for the kinds of players who would have considered Big Sky schools in the past.
